| Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) 01:39 - Oct 13 with 22742 views | ModeratorC | The Swans travel to St Mary’s Stadium for a fixture against Southampton this Saturday. (12.30pm) Recent visits to the Saints haven’t gone that well, but there is potentially a more level playing field this time around. The issues for the Swans will be the late returns of players like Cameron Burgess who won’t be back in the UK until Wednesday evening. Eom will be back by Wednesday afternoon latest but then for these two players there are time differences to overcome. Burgess from the USA and Eom from S.Korea. Plus assessments including sprint and fatigue tests which will determine their availability for this weekends game. (Sources) We should also be aware that the Swans are travelling to this game on Friday afternoon from their West Wales base. Put all that together with an early Saturday kick off and any form of result from this fixture will be welcome. | Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) on 21:58 - Oct 18 with 2108 views | QJumpingJack | Southampton team were the better side and should have won. I am a bit bored watching us. I try not to miss a game where possible but I can't say I am looking forward to the QPR game. I will watch it on Sky but I am not expecting much. And as for the last transfer window - it was "better" versus the previous 4-6 windows but that is not saying much when the bar was so low/rock bottom. | | | |

| Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) on 08:29 - Oct 19 with 1737 views | Swans9 | I should be happier with a point a very long 90 m watch. Their winger had us on toast I just don't know how Southampton could miss so many good chances baffling. We never get any luck now we have had it all in one game. It shows we got along way to go but it's always good to get any points from teams just relegated from the prem. Onwards and upwards. | | | |

The concerning facts for me are our recent performances, and how we have had our defence cut open time and time again, with our keeper, whether at home or away busier than the oppositions.

One of many concerning facts for me. We have no urgency or game plan. No creativity or penetrative running pushing the opposition back and putting us on the front foot. Link play from back to front is missing. But the most alarming fact for me was when Sky put up Vipotniks first half touches just thee, now that really is concerning.

| Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) on 21:45 - Oct 18 by Whiterockin | Agree. There's a place for stats in the dugout and it's in the bin next to the seats. |
Sheehan doesn’t need stats to tell him what’s happening on the pitch,we’ve can all see it , our fullbacks can’t tackle or defend ,Stamenic has turned into Grimes passing sideways and back and slows play down , our midfielders and wingers are marked tighter get pushed off the ball far too easily,we constantly faff around at the back instead of playing forward with pace and determination and we don’t get the ball into Zan Yesterday we were beyond lucky,Southampton should have been out of sight by halftime and it could have been a really embarrassing result He needs to get back to the way he had us playing at the end of last season, faster and braver Oh and we play Man City soon

It amazes me how many praise our defence. Aerially we are not too bad but as soon as a side push at us on the ground we are all at sea. We stand off the ball player allowing them time either to get a shot or cross off or pass at ease. I’m surprised we haven’t conceded more if I’m honest and yesterday wasn’t a heroic last stand at the back but wasteful opportunities missed by Soton. Happy with the (undeserved) point but livid about the performance. And those who may say we’ll click soon, well to ‘click’ you need to have a process in place that comes together. I’ve seen nothing to persuade me we have practiced any of these processes on the training ground.

| Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) on 11:32 - Oct 19 with 1419 views | swancity | On the balance of play that was a 0-4 defeat. I’m still unsure how they managed to fluke a 0-0. Big improvements needed everywhere really except in goal where Vigoroux is excelling. But overall a decent enough first ten games with lots of promise. | |

Yes, even if we weren’t fully up to speed, you’d expect to see little passages of play where you can see what Sheehan is trying to do by now. We just seem to rely on someone like Vipotnik or Inoussa producing a bit of magic. When they don’t, we’re predictable. Apart from Inoussa bursting down the flank and getting outnumbered a couple of times, we attacked like a Williams team yesterday.

Our best defender lately has been the woodwork. Three times against Leicester and twice yesterday at Southampton. Not sure if we can vote for the woodwork as our player of the season, but it's been our saviour!

| Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) on 15:05 - Oct 18 by Fireboy2 | Its all about opinions, perhaps they were listening to the one eyed soton commentary 🤷 There was only one open goal clear chance, one in the first half where the ball came at him very quickly and behind him. I can tell you one thing, I am not one eyed, I will give managers time unlike some on here.. Sheehan has got a decent squad, he should be more positive. If we arent playing well, winning more than losing by Xmas i wont be happy and I suspect the board wont be either. It could be worse, we could be soton, who have just come down with parachute payments yet they are below mid table, I think their manager is in more danger than ours. |
If the Swans played like Southampton did yesterday I’d be more than happy. Unfortunately they didn’t and should have conceded at least 3 . Southampton will be top six ivy Christmas, if we carry on the way we are we certainly will not.
| Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) on 09:32 - Oct 20 with 847 views | RichardO | Not creating anything for the players up front means the pressure is solely on us. Teams know we will try and press teams with th em having the ball in there defensive third but with teams using the goalie as an extra outfield play if we get it wrong our out field players will always get outnumbered, if our forwards press high and the whole of the midfield don't join thre press we will get played through, if the midfield presses high that leaves the backs vulnerable to the long ball often outnumbered fullbacks tucked in to cover the lack of pace of our centrebacks leaving space for wingers to recieve the ball uarke, if we win the central aerial long ball with our midfield is pressing high the midfield is too open. As we are the away team and against better teams or teams that are in positions in the game they are force to press forward we really need to make sure our marking is tight in our two defensive thirds of the pitch meaning the opposition can have the ball in their defensive third where they are not a threat until we try and press the ball incorrectly and leave gaps which fast incisive play will exploit The reverse also applies if we are slow gettimg the ball from one side of the pitch to other our forward midfielders pressed too high and our defensive midfielder deep the flanks are easy covered and the tightly marked wingers have no options to play the ball to midfield players because they are not in positions to recieve the ball making the only option to play the ball back. Any player wants the ball played in front of them facing towards the opposition's goal quick passing with quick movement off the ball to provide options instead we are letting our players get stifled in all areas of the pitch. We are at the moment being very reactive to situations instead of proactive at one point last season under Sheehan we were proactive in getting back into defensive shape letting teams play out from the back but safe in the knowledge our defence was set up properly and our midfield had the sense to mark tightly and cover forward runs of deep lying midfielders of backs how many times under recent managers to we press too many players forward with very little regard to the consequences of not having players cover forwards runs. Against Leicester Stamenic seemed to be caught in no man's land haven't seen a lot of Southampton game but for me there shouldn't be such a thing as defensive or attacking midfielders they need to be able to do both unrestricted by titles assued in the knowledge if any player goes forward then they need to cover any gaps left be it by fullbacks, central defenders. If you are trying to get quick balls to fullbacks high up the pitch why would you have static wingers creating width out wide instead of wingers dragging fullback inside to open the channels out for fullbacks or midfielders to exploit. All seems very static by us playing by numbers at times but getting the numbers wrong. Any inspiring play being suppressed both rigid setups and opposition's knowledge of how we are going to play. Could you say because of our lack of experience both ob and off the field making us unable to adapt our game to allow us a strong defence and an attacking force where and when needed. | | | |

| Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) on 17:14 - Oct 18 by vetchonian | Burgess V Darling....yes Gilbraith v Grimes yes v O Brien on par Stamenic v Fuktin yes but needs to be given more freedom Inoussa v Eom possibly on a par Widdell we cant tell as not seen enough of him We are certainly no worse off in terms of player quality over last season ( though we are missing the experience and class of the aged Allen and Naughton) so we ahould be seeing at least similar performances to thise we saw under Sheehan in those games innthe latrer part of last season.....but we arent. |
Agreed but Inoussa is far superior to Eom whom I think we should look to offload. He won’t get any better than he is now and that’s not good enough.

Idah looks utterly useless (£6 million- - mind you we did get £4million for that waste of space Grimes which the Snoop Dog gang on here thought was brilliant business) Jack 247 probably my favourite poster on here but you seem to be losing the plot recently. I am turning to be so right about my judgement on our "ludricous" transfer window. Have a look at the league table, am I right or wrong? |
Completely down to the manager. And I think the players are realising he’s not up to the job.

Key cannot defend, his body angles ,marking ,reading of situations and positioning are awful,he’s not a right back and he’s just so far out of his depth he’s a liability,he’s a wingback ,likes going forward ,not tackling and defensively he’s poor ,Tymon struggles defensively as well but not as badly as Key who let’s face it probably wouldn’t be in any other championship team as a fullback.we need to rest him and try someone else in at right back ,let’s face it,if he got injured we would have to
