If people want to call me out I will point out that I probably was raised in child poverty in real terms not percentages due to going without and having to graft on a very rudimentary farm in Carmarthenshire where gard physical work was required. It gave me a work ethic and ambition. It was dirty cold and not very comfortable..

That's just child benefit which everyone under a certain threshold is entitled to claim whether in work or not. You used to be given the forms to fill in at the hospital when your partner gives birth. I think they stopped that after the Tories tweaked the rules and failed to properly inform the public via HMRC. It has never been capped on numbers just household income.
UC is £292 a month per extra child, it was previously capped at 2. So if you have 5 kids you now get an extra approx E900 a month, plus your rent, which usually includes any bills service charges paid in full.

That is CHILD BENEFIT as explained in earlier posts.
It’s not the UC element that is where the £292 comes in and the cap being removed …after £339 for the first born kid.
It’s a common misconception- admittedly the GOv.UK spiel is badly written but I know friends and family that are on/have been on UC and know the amounts they get. Some justified some not so much. | |

The £70k is possible but would need a set of really specific needs such as:
1. Exemption from the Benefit Cap: At least one adult or child receives a high-rate disability benefit (PIP/DLA).
2. High Need for Disability Benefits: Multiple family members (e.g., both parents and a child) receiving the highest rates of disability benefits (PIP/DLA).
3. Extremely High Housing Costs: The family lives in a very high-rent area, such as Central London, where the Housing Element of Universal Credit would be very high.

The example I provide may or may not (I leave that up to you to decide) be based on a real example that I know of.
A couple. Both non-UK citizens. In council housing. One has been deemed not fit for work or work related activity. The other, as a result, is a full time carer. Two children. In the interests of fairness I have calculated that neither child receives DLA.
£2177.96 per month in Universal Credit.
£187.63 in Child Benefit.
£138.49 in Council Tax benefit.
£830.13 in PIP.
That's £3,334.21 monthly in benefits for people who have never contributed into the tax system. Considerably more than most people in this area earn working full time. This is unsustainable and morally reprehensible. [Post edited 4 Dec 22:07]

That needs to end. Any functional economy needs to reward work, needs to reward self improvement, needs to reward contribution. Otherwise we're basically f*cked. If you're dependent on benefits then yes, you shouldn't be able to afford to enjoy life as much as someone earning a decent full time salary. That's exactly as it should be.
I've worked with people with serious health issues. From brain injury caused disabilities to Dwarfism (that poor sod had to have his back medically broken every couple of years just to stay upright). Any of these people could have chosen to sit on their arses and live off benefits but chose to work instead.

You don't need just shy of £300 tax free to provide for a child, each child, a month...
It needs to be far less over the minimum than than the basic CB - £173 a month for two for example - needed for the new shoes, school uniforms,clothing etc which is why it was brought in by the Welfare State in the first place.
The figure is open to debate but UC should not reward idlement, If you refuse to work benefits must be stopped...or at the very least cut back to the bare minimum.
There are folks , from next year claiming an extra £1500 a month Universal Credit child allowance for the simple fact of having spat out 5 kids...that's a lot of fish fingers, beans and chips or Pot Noodles for tea ...and crisps and a fizzy drink for breakfast isn't it ? Mum's Gone to Iceland...then her dealer...
No doubt the surplus will be spent on booze, weed and Netflix by many of the feckless parents..It happens and it's far more widespread than the hand-wringing socialist apologists would have everyone believe - let's not pretend it doesn't ...
Then there's the millions of immigratnts who cannot believe their luck that we indulge, and agree with their Islamic view that women can't /shouldn't work and throw them £millions in benefits to facilitate their stone age religious hegemony...
