I went to post some Xmas cards the other day and the postbox was swathed in plastic and a sign saying Digital Post Box on the way.
I googled it and it will be solar powered and you can pay and post small parcels and of course letters

The nearest box to me's been converted.
Haven't used the digital bit yet but a thing to watch out for is that where the usual post box slot was has now incorporated a sort of drawer thingy for you to put your parcel in.
If you just want to post a letter in the old school way, you still can, it's just the part of the slot for that is now much thinner and it took me a couple of secs to even se that it was still there. (Works just fine, though.) |  | | |

Well, currently around here the queue at the post office usually stretches out onto the pavement.
And I can't see them ever opening new post offices.

I guess I walk into a London Post Office once every two or three years. Without exception, there is a fcking line a mile long, mostly comprised of folk with little to no English. Thankfully, I'm just visiting and have the whole afternoon to contemplate the meaning of life. | |

I had to send xmas cards to my family tracked this year just to ensure they actually got there. Otherwise I'm pretty sure, based on the last couple of years, they just get luzzed in the bin. |  |

I'd hate to see Royal Mail fold. Postmen are part of the landscape. Nearly always friendly and chirpy and since the days of Rowland Hill, as English as canal water.
