Boro in 2nd look abit too far but surely the playoffs are a real chance. 3pts off Ipswich in 3rd is fantastic. Honestly think we have a team to get us to the play offs. Got a Bobby zamora feeling.... | Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. |

On the basis that approx 10 or so teams are in the mix for playoffs, we've about 1 in 40 chance (2.5%). An outside chance but as good a chance as anyone in the mix at this point and enough to keep it interesting for now. The next couple of weeks should reduce the number of teams in the hunt so we'll have a better idea then https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/ [Post edited 28 Dec 5:06]

Three words, correctly assessing our chances. We've got a few threads going about our weaknesses in goal. We're playing two strikers, but don't have any back-up for them at all. Our FBs have been very good but again, no back up and given how well Madsen has played to become as integral as he has, then Oxford (h) showed how limited we are if he doesn't play. In a way, we're defying gravity. The fact that we are ninth, three points off third and if we'd done better against relegation facing teams when we played them, tells its own story about both the craziness of this league and the consistency you really need if promotion is a serious target. Thus, given how poor we've been over the last few years, to be where we are now is enough for us to be happy about going forward and to build on without the heavy, and I'd say, premature burden of expectations of promotion. I still look to our first priority of amassing 50 points and this season, it looks like we may do it way earlier than normal, especially after Coventry. We are doing ok and we are looking way better than we have for a long time. But we're not quite there, yet!

Which team in the play off picture right now is “consistent”? Considering we are 3 points off third it suggests nobody is consistent outside of the top two right now.. and we have January as well as another half of the season to get it right

What a good post! Yes dream of more but happy with a really decent amount of progress in terms of points, overall squad and playing style this season. Yes there are still some gaps but definitely something to build on.

A top half position is within our grasp this season and that's great and even if some results go our way and we keep key players on the pitch, a play off berth is possible. Its definitely the weakest season for top teams - only Coventry standing out so far and very few teams nailed on for the top six. If we do end up in the play offs, then that's a complete lottery, and the possibility would be there. But yes, just happy we are where we are currently, let's see where this ride takes us !! The play-off spots are wide open and you only need to look at Sunderland last season to see what's possible. I don't particularly like the Premier League but we've got to aspire to getting there. I was watching MOTD last night and Brentford and Fulham both won (Brentford now eighth), Villa - who we were playing a few seasons ago - are flying and then there's the likes of Brighton and Bournemouth - would they sell 9,000 tickets for a third round cup tie in a day? We just need more performances like the first half against Leicester and fewer like Norwich and Portsmouth.
