| Dunne 16:35 - Jan 12 with 3490 views | TK1 | Was quite rightly mocked for suggesting Dunne to a parachute club or an idiot Championship big-spender for £7m+ this summer could happen now we've signed Edwards. However, he was a stand-out yesterday, clearly our fittest player, a rock one end, a nuisance at the other. So I'm going to revise that and predict Jimmy Dunne to a parachute or idiot club in the summer for at least what we've spent on Edwards. I reckon it'll be West Ham. There's a much-liked thread on X from a West Ham fan saying they should sign him - "proper CB" - and threads on their messageboards saying the same. They're not really coveting any other QPR player. 28, they could get four good years out of him, more maybe...go on! | | | | |

Strikers can have a terrible game but one moment of brilliance turns it from a poor one to a great one. Who'd be a defender eh? |
I always remember playing in a cup semi-final at school (maybe under 16) and I was playing emergency left back (usually played right back as my left foot was only for standing on). Got tackled by the winger who went onto set up the winning goal for the other team. At the end of the game, our mouthy centre-forward had a go at me for my mistake for losing us the game. The PE teacher in charge of the team told him that we lost because he (the centre-forward) missed a penalty and another open goal, even though he did score one goal. Who'd be a defender or goal-keeper.

I'm used to it as a CB | |

| Dunne on 09:41 - Jan 13 by A40Bosh | Interesting that in many of the posts on this thread there is the use of the word “fault”. Yes he got skinned, by a very talented attacking player. How often do we see flashes of great play by premier league players against other premier league players and the attacking player is lauded for how good they are. From my perspective for their second goal, yes our Championship standard, 6’4 CB with 2 dodgy hips who often struggles against nippy wingers in the Championship got skinned by a Prem player. Why does it have to be his fault, especially as he got pulled out wider due to other players not stopping the attack earlier? Sometimes your opponent merely has better players who can produce these flashes more consistently. Same with Walsh, he wasn’t at fault for either goal, in the same way Murphy Cooper could not be blamed for any of the 4 goals he let in last night against Liverpool. |
There's currently a need to fashion blame for everything that doesn't go perfectly so that people have a scapegoat. There seems to be comfort in having someone to blame because it implies that if you replace that person everything will be wonderful (the same is happening in politics). That's not to say that sometimes blame can't be justifiably apportioned, but much of the time shit just happens, especially in football where margins are fine and one piece of skill can turn a game. Do we hold Joe Allen responsible for letting Taarabt score that famous goal against Swansea, or do we recognise a flash of brilliance? [Post edited 14 Jan 16:03]

I'm guessing that the Swansea fans held Joe Allen responsible rather than marvelled at Adel's skill. You do realise that it's ok to constructively criticise a mistake? That doesn't mean folk are looking for scapegoats or someone to burn at the stake. Dunne had a great game against West Ham. He made only 2 mistakes both of which were ruthlessly punished. Nevertheless, I for one am pleased as punch he's still ours and would love a few more like him in our team.
| Dunne on 00:10 - Jan 15 with 38 views | EN_Ranger | The current approach to modern football has everyone in our squad either being prepared for a sale or over the hill. There is a middle ground which is a player who has a good contract, enjoying playing for us and has found their level. Jimmy didn’t get a better offer last summer so re-signed with us, which suits all parties and let’s just be happy with that! He’s a club legend in the making because he’s perfect for QPR | | | |
