Onuachu and Mara to varying levels still showed flashes of quality and the odd goal.
Which meant some of the fanbase would take a liking to them ...or at least think they were were worth perservering with .
Downs unfortunately showed zero promise in any competitive game , so there was very little for the most optimistic fan to cling on to . [Post edited 20 Mar 8:59]

I think Mara would have been OK if he could be arsed, which he couldn’t.
Onuachu would have been useful in the Championship as you don’t have to be particularly good if you’re big, can hold the ball up now and then and win the odd header. Larin isn’t exactly graceful but he knows what he’s doing, can make an impact and score the odd goal.
DD didn’t have a clue. Maybe he can be coached but it didn’t work before and Hamburg don’t seem to have made much progress with him either. That’s a club that decided Daniel Peretz was only second choice and that leaves me seriously questioning their judgment. |  |

I'd like to know who elevated Onuachu to god like status?
His time at Saints was a trying one for Paul,often starting from the bench and under managers who didn't have a clue.
While I don't think he was Premiership class I think he would have been useful in the Championship particularly under the guidance of Eckert
We should have kept him instead of Archer and Downs.
