It sums up what so many of us think. If being an AM is easier than working a normal job 9-5 why do we need the extra members. There seems to be no accountability in the Senedd no matter the party. With the change of power in two weeks if we don't see a dramatic improvement this parliament have a referendum on whether to keep the Senedd or not. If the Welsh voting public vote to keep fine, if the vote to abolish thats fine. Its what democracy is all about, deliver what you promise or get out.

Darren Millar the Welsh conservative leader has said he'd stop these 36 new MP's in the Senedd, he stop this ridiculous gender neutral tree [WTAF] planting in Uganda and these other ridiculous vanity projects with offices abroad in places like Kazakhstan.

And spend that money here in Wales were it should have been spent in first place, the wastage by these Welsh Labour goons is incredible yet they will face no justice for their decisions, apart from being booted out,

Although these offices are and have been a nice getaway jolly running into hundreds of millions of taxpayers [money that SHOULD have been spent here in Wales] for the likes of Drakeford and his fellow goons.

But a budget allocated by an austerity driven Tory government, many members of which have now joined Reform.

They've got lots wrong and need to go, but Reform would be a disaster. Luckily for Wales they'll only be the opposition.

So wasting millions on tree planting , or now 8 million on a 1 x mile cycle track or over 100 on a feasability study knowing full well it was pointless erxercise or millions on yet more ams, or 4 or is it 5 embassys across the world. or how may millions is it now on a regional airport, for the first time you're right they need to go but you haven't proposed who will replace them.

For me, the primary question is: which vote will have the maximum effect in encouraging the parties that have previously held power to mend their ways? There is an awful long way to travel from the Senedd result to the next general election (barring the outside possibility of an IMF crisis), so if Reform did well it would not put Farage into number 10. When people decide how to vote they should understand that all the other realistic permutations just mean more of the same - almost certainly a Plaid/Labour coalition. The usual suspects will carry on largely undisturbed.

I totally understand your point. We need change.

My concern is we're being driven to extremes and nobody will actually solve the issues facing us. The Greens are barking mad, Reform are dangerous. Labour and the Tories are out of the question in the short term. Neither far (ISH) left or right works.

Immigration is too high, but we need immigrants. The welfare state is being exploited but lots of people actually need it. Public services are awful but nobody wants to pay for them to improve.

In an ideal world a big Reform vote may drive others to the centre, but I think it'll just drive people further left. The lib dems have missed an open goal.

Having spent nigh on 30 years working in public services a lack of money is not the problem. Competent senior management is. Far too much is led from the top, by people with little or no understanding of how things actually work at the coal face.

Processes should be designed from the ground up rather than the other way around. Too much emphasis is placed on the political fancies of the day rather than what actually works. Far too many people find themselves in managerial positions based on bullshit than their actual achievement in their jobs. Too many have no practical experience at all.

People on the ground should have actual power to make changes and do their jobs as they see fit. Instead it's a tick box exercise where they have little choice over how best to carry out what's being asked of them.

It's a shame that Dom Cummings never got the chance to take an axe to the Civil Service because it's long overdue.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Next time I see someone in a hospital corridor waiting for treatment I'll tell them not to worry we are planting trees instead of spending money on things that matter. No surprise really with thinking like yours that the current Welsh government are being thrown out by the voting public, probably never to be seen again.

Starmer vowed to solve all them problems in the swipe of a pen in his manifesto .

That has backfired on him big time , nothing achieved or gained but will continue to blame the last lot who were just as useless and cannot run a bath .

Our PM is so so frightend to go out on the campaign trail drumming up for support for his candidates he hides knowing he is doomed in May .

Immigration is not an issue in the Senedd election the poor public services, bad decisions, wasted money and pathetic leadership are. Its looking more likely that a vote for Reform is the only way to change this. A vote for Plaid will just mean more of the same while they continue to team up with Labour and prop each other up. A vote for Reform in Wales will not make Farage PM there is a long time to the general election, but it will help to bring an end to Starmer and prompt a change in Westminster but that is not the issue. The Welsh voting public should vote for whoever they want and not concider Westminster the election is to decide what is best for Wales long term nothing else matters.

The only cure is a more politically astute public. If we were more politically aware Reform wouldn't get a look in and neither would socialist parties, neither can deliver what they promise. You just need to consider the naivety around immigration on this forum.

In the last election we elected a party who promised to deliver a larger Senedd and a 20mph speed limit. Both stupid ideas but supported (or rather ignored) by the electorate until they were put in to practice. Then we moaned about it.

We'll get a plaid / labour maybe with the greens coalition, we'll just have to see what direction we head in. The one saving grace is that Plaid won't have a Westminster party on their conscience.

His first words of reply every time questions are thrown at him are we are trying to repair the 14 yrs of damage done by the last lot, he's pathetic.

All he's doing is making things worse and costing the taxpayer more and more money.

Approaching 150 Reform politicians at various levels are former members of the party responsible for the worst government in living memory. Braverman, Zahawi and Jenrick were actually in the cabinet. Two of those were actually responsible for immigration.

Well done Suella.

Now this is why I believe your not the brightest of sparks so lets take Braverman as an example she tried vainly to implement her policies especially in reguards to illegal immigrants yet everytime she was shot down by members of her own party and of course Labour, so no wonder she jumped ship but i guess this will simply sail straight over your head with thre many other things you struggle to grasp.

Because they were completely unworkable, undeliverable, expensive and pointless. That pretty much sums up Reforms manifesto too.

She described the utterly absurd Rwanda plan as "her dream". It was implemented and totally failed at the first hurdle. It failed becasue it was unworkable. It cost £700 miilion for nothing.

Her ideology maybe the same as Reform, what they plan is also unworkable and unaffordable. She's found a home with similarly crap politicians.

That's a little different from my experience. I'm not a public servant but work very closely with 8 public organisations across Wales, my wife works for one and I've got friends in others to director level.

There is poor management, without a doubt. But also excellent management, what there isn't is enough cash - it's better now in Wales but they're playing catch up, to the tune of billions of pounds. One organisation towards the end of a financial year had to use coloured paper to print letters becasue they'd run out of white and couldn't afford more. No amount of process re-engineering or efficent management is going to maintain service and save the billions needed. Just look at the state of the place.

Many or the political fancies are policies the government have been elected to deliver, I disagree with many of those I work on but thousands (millions?) don't. We all have different priorities.

Having read BJ's autobiography Cummings had a chance to take an axe to the blob, but they basically held the government together during covid so he couldn't.

Some interesting points are raised in the last couple of posts. Are the problems we see in public services largely a result of poor management or is it an issue of inadequate funding? Both play a part but are not the whole story. My take is that there are a variety of problems in the public and third sectors due to different institutional histories and how organisations got to their present position (path dependency). In the organisations that I know best, the tension between managers and professionals is a big issue. This is probably less applicable to the core civil service, but a big issue in the NHS, the legal sector, and HE. In the NHS in particular, senior professionals are hugely influential, and this is often used as an excuse by managers who don't achieve the desired service improvements.

I will concentrate on Wales because this is a Senedd thread. If money was not wasted on vanity projects and it was channelled into basic core services like health, education and infrastructure these would improve. Then if there is any money spare use it for non priority services and vanity projects, this is what we should all want. The Senedd has found money for extra AMs I'm sure it could find some money for white paper instead of the more expensive coloured paper. One does wonder why there was a surplus of the expensive coloured paper and a shortage of the cheaper white, poor management?

Again it depends on what vanity projetcs are in question? The 20 mph speed limit was voted for by the majority of the electorate at the last election. It's stupid but it's democracy.

I consider universal free prescriptions and universal free school meals in primary schools a vanity project. Both have been defended on here.

Some consider WG offices in other countries a waste - but what does a cost / benefit analysis show?

The paper analogy might be bad management - but they are the kind of small things that even if accumalted wouldn't make up the deficit.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown area by area. I'd wager the percentage is a lot lower outside SE Wales.

As the Senedd election nears, 54% of Welsh people say the Welsh government is doing a bad job. This number is growing, one more parliament and if things don't improve the pressure will mount for a referendum. If retain win fine if abolish win that's fine, the public will decide.
