1. Shane Long got the best reception I have seen from the crowd in the Fan Zone, which probably tells you about the demographics of those who go in their, it was far better than the likes of David Peach & Steve Williams for instance.

The atmosphere was terrible, at times you could hear a pin drop, what is the point of going to a game if you aren't going to offer some sort of encouragement, even just a "Come on Saints" every 10 minutes would be better than just sitting and watching, at times it was like being sat in a cinema.

The quality of stewarding is appalling, half of them have no idea of the section of the ground they are stewarding, what the seat numbers are etc and in which direction, all they do is block the exits and walk up and down the steps every 10 mins, thus blocking the view of those trying to watch the game.

5. Why are there so many taxis in Southampton that are Toyotas, its become a lucky omen to count them between St Mary's Leisure centre & the Railway footbridge on Northam Road, last night it was a record 18

Yes I do moan about the fans, I do so because I want us to be passionate, you wont want to hear this, but in the early 1990's Fratton Park was a soulless place rarely anyway near capacity and then up came a man with a bell who changed their mindset.

We can either sit back an accept that we are a reserved fanbase or we can stand up and change it.

Ask your self this, Saints fans are no better or worse than others, but can you say the same about Pompey ?

Whenever I moan about the fans someone always pops up and defends a poor atmosphere, there are always excuses, it was a Tuesday night, a slow pace ( Not sure on this one ) it was raining etc etc

We will always be average as supporters if we take every excuse, why can't we turn ourselves into something special ?

There is only one reason, we accept it, against Arsenal we all stood up and cheered, at Wrexham the away support was outstanding, yet then just days later we have two games in a row where large parts of the fanbase said nothing.

I'm not interested in standing in the Northam and singing, but I shout encouragement for the team, yet there are people around me who say absolutely nothing, not even the odd "Come on Saints"

Of course the atmosphere would have been special at Fratton on Tues ( pains me to say that) ....they're fighting for their lives and the team put in a brilliant performance and beat a top side....just like we were against Arsenal where the underdog spirit will lead to a great atmosphere...its simply not going to happen when you go 2 nil up fairy quickly against a poor side ...no where in the country would any fans be roaring on their side in this situation.

If our atmosphere is poor/average..call it what you like ...what difference has it made to the actual results?

When were we last beat at home??

Pompey have won 7 out of 21 home league games at home backed by their amazing supporters and the pi**ed up bell ringing sap in a wig!!..

I totally disagree about the improvement in the atmosphere at Fratton being down to Westwood.

Most of their fans can't stand him, and he just makes random noises with his fcuking bell that do nothing to encourage a chant.

He is just a joke, I have stood on terraces at England games where he has been mocked by thousands of England fans for his tuneless dirge.

I went to many games at Fratton in the 90's in their away end, and until they put a roof on their Fratton End in the late 90's, the atmosphere there was non-existent.

Unlike us, they have built their ground in such a way that noise reverberates rather than disintegrates. It is unfortunately the same at many grounds that Barr Construction have built.

Their Fratton End keeps the noise in, and their side stands are rickety old things that do likewise. And that gives them impetus, as they know their voices will have an impact.

In the unlikely event of them ever moving to a new ground, their support would probably suffer bigtime.

This is basically why I moved from the Northam.

I got fed up of being surrounded by people who were more interested in being on their phones than supporting the team.

I have moved to the back of the Chapel, and I know many will say "we can't hear the Chapel".

I am however in a group of 20 or so like-minded souls at the back of Blocks 20 and 21 who will basically sing all game, and don't piss about on phones.

For the Arsenal game, quite a few others joined in with us, but that was a fairly exceptional game.

As Frannies Tache has said on here, it is going to take time to evolve, probably a year or two. Though that is part of the fun watching it grow.

But I do get a feeling of excitement in there that it could be like the Itchen North was pre-COVID, which was just a brilliant place to be.

I've spent most of my time at St Mary's behind the goal in The Chapel

After reading some of the comments on here about block 20/21 I thought I'd get a ticket in 19 on the stairs to see what was going on. Really good to see what's happening, as I said on the other thread it reminds me of the old days at the Dell
I'll stick with Block 19 as I'm well aware that im a woolyback from Woking and will see how it evolves

I'd love to watch a few more games in the Chapel too.
I was in blk 19 for the Arsenal game for a change from our normal seats and I loved it there...I've got no issue with the Northam ( apart from the dumb and boring anti Pompey stuff) .

My issue is I'm taking my youngest nipper who's 13 and he's a passionate Saints fan and he's trying to be a little geezer in his weekend defender hat and burberry scarf looking up to the older nippers and there is no way he's having anything to do with the Chapel.
