My wife and I went there as part of a trip from Laos (where we met Michael Buerk doing his own tour), through marvellous places in Vietnam and finished up in Cambodia to see Angkor Wat. Throughout, the food was great, the people friendly, lovely beaches and all very good value. I rate it as one of our best ever holidays and we've done a lot of travelling to some wonderful places. You'll love it but stay off the hooch, it's a killer (literally). |

True, but I think he said he was on a tour, which took in the Nam and Cambodia.
Laos is without doubt, the most relaxed place I've ever been to, and Luang Prabang one of the most gorgeous places, too. Beer Lao, the best beer in SE Asia by a mile for my laks as well.
Mrs PH and I travelled around Laos for a few weeks. Given that we lived in that part of the world for years, it's scandalous we never returned!
As for Laos being relaxed, the joke is that the PDR part of the country's full name stands for: Please Don't Rush.

Yes, the beaches were in Vietnam and we stayed on one of the Cambodia islands, can't remember the name. | | | |
