Brazil had Pele kicked out of the tournament, an English ref sent off 2 Uruguayans and I think (can't be arsed to check) disallowed 2 Uruguay goals to allow the Germans to get through one quarter final when a German ref sent off Argentina's best player and captain against England for ' violence of the tongue', when reporters asked the German ref what did Rattin say the ref apparently responded 'I don't know I don't speak Spanish'.
Now that is not a joke apparently that is what happened, Rattin refused to leave the pitch they had to have the police on the pitch to take him off, such was the injustice he wouldn't leave.
Obviously it was just part of the much larger perceived conspiracy, French was robbed against the English, the semi final moved from Goodison not to give Portugal a nominal home game at the last minute against England, the ghost goal in the final etc etc |  |

Brazil had won the 2 previous World cups and to celebrate 50 years of the Brazilian football confederation they organised a tournament in 1964 between the best teams in the World.
Brazil beat England 5-1 , Jimmy Greaves possibly England's greatest player said Pele was on another planet after the match, Argentina's Rattin then beat multiple world champs Brazil in Brazil 3-0, Rattins Argentina then beat England (Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore, Jimmy Greaves etc).

The lack of England qualifying for over world cups in a row (they hosted 1966 and 1970 fair play as winners) 1974 and 78 the golden era for me of English club football, no show. Never picked the right players. Got in the back door in 1982. They have no pedigree from their golden era.

My grandfather was from Mullingar in the Republic, staunch communist and fought for the govt in the Spanish civil war. He too was in the British army circa 1934 to around 1936. Never hated the British or English, just detested hatred in all its forms. He would be horrified at today’s belief nothing comes back to haunt people who spend all their time on social media making bizarre comments and committing criminal offences, the majority unchecked. | |

They only spoke Welsh until they moved to Swansea to start a business after being schooled on Ferryside
Grandad and grandma spoke Welsh to each other and English to their children , ie my father and my two aunties

Grandfather spoke English to me grandmother Welsh

I Contrary to what some think, do not “ hate” Welsh although my own mother didn’t like it although she sang hymns in Chapels as she had a Stella mezzo soprano voice

In this country we take down the national flag in case it upsets people who have come to our country for a better life.
Breath of fresh air in my opinion, they won a football match against a country they see as an arch rival & celebrated with their supporters.
