Staying 'up north' Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights sounds like a positive idea.
However, players have lives and several have families. They accept being away from home a certain number of times but it may 'p*ss them off', if you increase that by say 12 or more days a season. Do that and you risk squad unity and performance. The Thursday would probably be a rest day anyway. They may get bored kicking their heels around the hotel and may be tempted to breach club rules or discipline. We don't know but there may even be something in their contracts that limits hotel stops. It's not just the players, it's the staff too, all that are involved in day to day first team training.
Then there's the additional cost as well. The club paying for three nights for up to thirty people, maybe more, and the hire of an additional training ground. Some of this additional expense may also have an effect on FFP. |
Yes that did occur to me - but if it's maybe two or three times a season at most is it such a hardship? I mean they are mostly getting paid well enough.
I don't know either if other Championship/EFL clubs do it, I'd say though it's worth at least trying to see if it has a positive effect. And the extra one or two points gained could be the difference between being in and out of the play offs come May. |  |
