| Being told to stockpile 23:14 - Oct 23 with 3168 views | loftboy | Surely this is one of the most irresponsible things ever to be said by an incumbent government. No doubt we will be seeing empty shelves again this week as all the big roll gets bought. | |

The French rioting as they are out of money. The UK is now borrowing £150b per year, of which £120b is being used to pay interest on the debt already accrude. There is no more slack in the system. Unwilling to cut benefits yet unable to raise taxes any further to cover the cost of entitlements. Bond market interest rates are already rising, and they will stop buying them (the markets already bought less than expected at the last sale in the summer). When it happens, and it now can't be stopped, the UK will have to go to the IMF. They will take control and demand massive cuts. Anyone on any sort of benefit can say goodbye to them. The UK, like France, has millions of people who feel they're entitled to free money and when the tap is turned off the inevitable violence will follow. Oh, the French have the ECB to bail them out (but still with huge cuts), the UK has no one. This is why you should have an emergency stockpile. Still, we won 5-0, so I'm happy!!!

| Being told to stockpile on 21:10 - Oct 24 with 449 views | GloryHunter | My wife grew up in Germany close to the East German border fence. She's been stockpiling since the Brexit referendum. And then stockpiled some more during the Covid-19 lockdowns. We're eating tins of beans and tomatoes dated 2016. So nothing has changed for us. | | | |

Interesting you mention this and a post above mentions the Liz Truss mini period of mad office. Now Truss was/is a buffoon; absolutely no denying that and God knows how Rishi lost out to her originall. However, the Bond sell off her mini budget prompted is oft cited as nearly breaking the economy and the ramifications of it still around. I took interest in it as it had a really bad fallout to me personally and meant a sharp deviation my own life plan. What a lot of people who chuck the “Truss Mad Mini Budget” seem to not realise is this is now actually an accepted tactic across many governments and people don’t even raise an eyebrow. You are bang on that it is happening again now and rates have actually been higher than Truss’s worst moment. That’s an inconvenient fact for the red tinted spectacles. There’s no easy answer and none of the politat have the answer. I don’t either by the way! This country does need a short sharp shock but it’ll be too late very soon. I’ll be buying lots of baked beans in my shopping today. That’ll have me sleeping soundly tonight
