Is Jay Fulton undroppable ? 18:58 - Nov 1 with 2640 viewsKeithHaynes

They all had a mare last weekend, but yesterday he was incredible (again) His fitness too is testament to all the extra hard work he does out of training in the gym and on the training pitch.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

For me, Martin lost my support when he sent Fulton to the doghouse, derided him to force him out of the club, and telling him in public statements that he was free to leave the club. Then Martin decides to bring him back to the fold after no takers in the market, and Jay, the true professional, helps lead the club to almost making the playoffs.

It's Jay's true professionalism with so much class and about how he handled that awkward time of his career that stands out. No, he would be the first to say that he's not undroppable, especially when there are as many games to be played in 7-8 days. But we/I sure like his consistency, especially with this young squad. He and Eustaquio make a good tandem.

Fulton does an incredible amount of work on and off the pitch with the youngsters, watch him carefully off the ball giving advice.

Widell in particular has made no secret about how much he looks up to Fulton.

Said it before, but I'd be very surprised if there's not a coaching job waiting here for him when he does decide to wind down his career. Club management respects him. Players he's played with in the past respect him. Players he's playing with now respect him.

Incidentally I only recently learned that hus dad is Steve Fulton, who I can remember as a player too.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Nobody should be undroppable but some players get very close. Jay had his knockers, I was one for a short while, but he's proved his worth.

If he goes on to coach here maybe it will be that return to the Swansea way that many idolise, the growing from within, the stability matched by good football. I thought that when Rodgers left it'd be a long time before we had a manager as good for our club again but here we are, Matos could be that man. We had some very good managers in a row, Flynn, Jackett, Martinez, Rodgers, we were very lucky, maybe they weren't always great elsehwere but they were great for us.

It’s all about the now and right now he is doing a fine job
That’s all that matters
He’s a first class pro

How many minutes will he be able to play in the next to games given he played 90 on Saturday, and yes I will mention at his age of 32.
Not "undroppable" but do we limit him on Tuesday to play on Saturday or try and secure a win on Tuesday and if he has to play 90, then worry about Saturday on Saturday?

I would say it depends on how the game tonight is playing out in real time. An example would be 2-0 up after 60 minutes take him off, 0-0 leave him on for a bit, 0-2 down and we are chasing the game take him off. Plus it depends if Stamenic and Eustaquio are fit. Possibly not fit for tonight but fit for Saturday. Just so many variables in football.

That is how I see it but will Matos do the rotation thing and Start with Stamenic, a lot depends on Eustaquio, would be interesting to see what midfoeld has got the best results away from home, the break aways as the home team is encouraged to press on, start Idah to hold up the ball to let players join the attack quickly or Stewart to take the advantage of a slow defence given he seems to be more clinical than Idah, or Vipotnik to give him more minutes, as you say lots of ifs and buts in footie.

Morning Rich
He’s still a young man but he’s operating at a high physically cal level so it’s not a matter of dropping him
I think Matos
Might well be managing the players exceptionally well

Relative to you and I he is a young but given he plays better as a box to box player and older he will need time to recover from lung busting runs and that is when you need players around you who can do the leg work, for me it became a factor with Grimes he needed energy and movement around him but had Hourihane alongside him under Cooper playing the safety first football becomes his fallback option, a problem when you slow a game down too often and are unable or unwilling to inject pace and unpredictability into a game, Grimes needed energetic players around him and a new challenge he had become to comfortable, it got Coventry out of the championship but is it enough to keep Coventry in the Premier league or do they need a younger player, Grimes not selected in Coventry's last game and they win.He has a skill set but if you haven't got the right players or are unable to compete at a level then things need changing or managing.
Fulton time needs managing as you say it is not dropping as such, as do many of our players given the high intensity play being asked of them.
Can Stamenic reach the standard that Fulton set when playing his best game, in time I am hoping he can but that needs him to improve areas of his game, I looked at Declan Rice and saw a very good player but he has progress immeasurably in the level of his midfield play. Has Fulton learnt from the likes of Grimes and Allen, their best traits seem to be coming to the fore in Fulton.

Considering the amount of footballers who have played at the professional level it’s strange that out of that pool which increases annually there’s a dire shortage of decent managers , it seems the merry go round of managers who fail but still get high profile jobs is something I’ve always found strange .

But this is purely a statistical thing. There can only ever be a certain % of "good" coaches around because results dictate this. It's statistically impossible that we'll all think most managers/coaches are "good" because the same amount of clubs that win games, lose games. For a football club, you simply need to have an above average coach and you'll likely do well. I realise this is simplistic but it ain't rocket science.

Great post
Frankly, I always believed Grimrs to be talented player but vastly overated
He’s a very lucky boy to because Prem wages
He has been rumbled however and he will be offloaded IMO) if Coventry improved vectgeirvposition
Have to say Fulton might well have been misused or badly managed
IMP he’s been mediocre or not outstanding for years and on reflection we good have got far more out of him
That we are now is down to Matos
It’s all about the Now and right now he’s very crucial

Stamenic IMO still underrated but should be more influential

Anyway

Oh wow - I kinda just assumed everyone knew that. I moved to Scotland for Uni in '89 and Stevie Fulton was upcoming then. Very skillful - was a legend and Hearts and won the League with Celtic too. Unlucky to not win Scotland caps and there was always calls for him to be called up but just like his son - it never happened. From memory he was a fair bit shorter than Jay and mainly played wide midfield/winger. Looked a bit like Melker Widdell when he was younger FWIW

Luadrup too

All appointed by Huw Jenkins of course. He has also appointed Christian Fuchs and now Hayden Mullins at Newport.

He is not well loved on here for not patronising the irrelevant fans group who is biggest investment is a London QC. They have commissioned a mural recently which is better than nothing I suppose..
