JD Sports deal for Bury 11:15 - Nov 12 with 7662 viewsmidlandsdale

Whilst we obviously don't know the detail, it does seem a step in the right direction. Bye bye gigg though as stadium re named JD stadium.

Given that one of JD founders played in the same Rochdale boys team as me I think he should have thrown some sponsorship our way! Wait while I see him next!!

Is it a shirt sponsor deal and a stadium naming right deal lumped together.

so lets say 3 years at £300k ( i have no idea i plucked £300k from thin air )

and we get £100k a year from Crown Oil ( again i have no idea how much ££ ) this is hyperthetical.

then thats just more

#smokeandmirrors

from our diluted friends down the road.

ie is the NEW " biggest ever " deal just another short term cash injection to see them through what would have been a VERY VERY Tricky winter period cash wise?.

what do we recon?

It'll be the biggest ever because its a three year shirt deal +all club related merchandise, a three year shirt / short advertising deal and a three year stadium deal.

I did chortle at the post which said "Do you want to play at Gigg Lane in the Conference or at the JD Stadium in the Championship?". Given that stadium sponsorship is nothing new, you'd have to assume that the figures involved aren't massive or every team in the country would be doing it. At a guess, I'd say that the amount which goes towards sponsoring the stadium will be far less than the money that FCUM would have paid them to stay at JD for another season.

Yes, but that is an utter guess isn't it?

To be honest I suspect it will be greater than the FCUM money, though not enough to finance anything beyond financial stability; partly because the deals we struck about the time we did the FCUM one were generally awful so I doubt we squeezed what was then a non-league experiment as much as we should have.

However, it stuns me that there are Bury fans anywhere whining about this. We nearly went bust even with the FCUM money, which we are about to lose. We sell off naming rights to the stadium (which wasn't being used previously anyway) and shirt sponsorship (which must have been increasingly difficult for the Council to justify), bringing in money we didn't otherwise have.

These are the kind of deals being struck all over the Football League; because it is easy access to revenue. And everyone outside the BBC will still call it Gigg anyway.

Yes, but its Sir JD Stadium to you.

For what it is worth I would have liked them to go with "The JD Sports Ampitheatre At Gigg Lane" but there we go.

Good enough to host a game in the RL World Cup though.

That was easy access to revenue aswell.

I don't think Bury F.C. would allow an R.L. game on the pristine turf of the J.D.Sta................. erm I mean Gigg Lane

Although rumour has it that revenue was minimal.

I always thought that bury fans memories were excellent.
Stretching back to when they won a cup.
" The club moved to Gigg Lane, Bury, the home of Bury F.C.. In the Lions' last season at Station Road they were drawing crowds of 3,000 but this sudden move caused the club to lose many supporters. Shortly afterwards, Swinton were forced out of Gigg Lane by the financial problems of their landlords, Bury FC."
