As for the rest of the interview, Watson's analysis is, as usual, borderline surreal. 13 (THIRTEEN) goals conceded in the last three games and he's saying "It's something to build on" and seems quite content with a lot of the game tonight. Has he found Graham Barrow's book of excuses? He seems to be living in a denial ridden world of his own where his affect on results and performances are concerned. Apparently "We have to get better towards the end of the game so that we don’t concede these types of goals". 0-3 down at half time in the last two league games (after the first it wouldn't happen again) suggests he doesn't have form for correcting such things. Nor do the three his team conceded 2nd half v Gillingham relative to the four v Doncaster tonight. Since the first friendly at FCUM Watson's defences have been mostly woeful. Now worst in League 2.
Sorry, but the bloke is well out of his depth in football matters, talks nonsense and is damaging RAFC. If the board can't see that now, maybe a big drop in attendances and 23rd or 24th position in the league table might be a revelation? Project 5000 is on its arse with Watson here. A change is needed. What has changed? Sounds like a right load of BS given today's performance and result. "It can't happen again" and we're three down in 22 minutes. Today's post-match is a rinse and repeat. He is proving incapable of effecting the changes needed. In league games only, we've conceded two 3's, two 4's and a 5 already. More goals in total than any other in the league. We're too easy to attack and he's making us even worse. None of his methods (if he has any) are working to halt this decline. It's also worth noting that we've lost to both the bottom two teams in the league as it stands tonight.
Déjà vu Steve Eyre? His early season inexperience and inadequacies ultimately laid the ground for relegation from League 1. Relegation is not something we can risk again.
Great performance by Accy. From a Rochdale "coach" who seemingly values "performance" very highly, where does our performance stand today? Awful is being kind. Watson says "no excuses" after today's spanking. His words are speaking louder than his actions to date. He looks worried in his post match. There were some poor individual player performances for sure . To see a team so weak, disorganised, unprepared for the opposition, second to most balls, lacking in character and team spirit is on the coach. Thought we'd got past the horror shows of the friendlies and early league games. Seems like we've got worse.
We've had a few good games this season. Had we not got lucky v Oldham and got the 0 points we should have if they could shoot properly, deduct those three points and then look at the league table. 23rd. Fortunately, we're not.
Hope we improve massively for next Saturday's game which could influence the lower end of the table. If not, Watson's tenure must be seriously questioned. Again.
Yes. Made a suggestion a few days before the Swindon home game. Got the auto reply about a 14 day response, which never responded after 14 days. As the suggestion became irrelevant after the Swindon game, there was no need for a reply to be fair. Even so, given the excellent advances the club have made off-field, you'd expect a more timely, pro-active operation from this address.
This undefeated, well established Crewe side is going to be our biggest test since promotion. Let's see how IW and the lads cope with the challenge. UP THE DALE.
Remember the DAZN coverage of the Oldham game referred to. The ancient BIFFO summariser seemed to believe all decisions had to be in Oldham's favour. He kept referring to the ref that day as a "pie can", much to the mocking amusement of the audience in Ratcliffes! Fortunately, Mr Chilowicz remained impartial.
Been posted elsewhere, but this is the sort of excellent information that could've been shared at a fans forum had it lasted long enough and questions been asked. Insightful from our reps, and some wise words from Huw Jenkins who is vastly experienced in the game.
Indeed. It now seems clear that parts of the "club establishment" did not want the forum, and obviously couldn't cancel it without controversy. (They may have expected vitriol, they got none. The pre-forum "message from the board" worked in that respect.) So, they manipulated it, ordering the MC to run it like he did to protect Watson from some of the deserved questions raised by his actions. Shut it down ASAP, impose a time limit but don't tell anyone. Even in much darker days, that has never happened before at a Fans Forum. That is NOT what a Dale Fans Forum is about. It is not a criticism of Ian Watson, who stayed on and spoke to supporters. It is not a criticism of the MC operating under orders, but a criticism of a very cynical manipulation of a bi-annual event, hosted by Dale Trust, by certain people at the club.
It was noted that none of the Ogden family or their appointed board members were there, but why should they travel and incur costs for a 53 minute meeting?
At a time when so many good things are happening off the pitch, we don't need divisive tricks like that. Hopefully, a lesson learned because those of us in attendance and Dale Trust will no doubt want visible timelines at least for the next event. We don't forget stunts like that.
At least none of the top table resorted to pretending to cry á la Roger.
