| Ads on here 20:09 - Dec 21 with 1064 views | Match82 | Anybody else notice that these are getting a bit intrusive the last few days? No problem at all with having ads, understand the bills have to be paid, but for me at least they're sometimes taking up about 80% of the screen at the moment without really being able to close them easily. | | | | |
| Ads on here on 20:49 - Dec 21 with 955 views | Landshark | That reminds me as I've been meaning to say something. If like me you use an ad blocker, you can turn off blocking for certain websites. I feel this website should have ad blocking turned off considering the work put in to it. | | | |
| Ads on here on 21:08 - Dec 21 with 883 views | Northernr | Yeh I can't say I'm wild about them myself. New ad provider as of last week so it's bedding in and there will be teething issues. I've successfully lobbied to have them taken out of the articles themselves. And if you log in you should see fewer. But, I agree, they're not ideal and it looks terribly messy, front page in particular looks like somebody threw up over it. If there are particular ones that you're finding intrusive please post below and I'll see if I can get them taken off as well. Screenshots help too, loftforwords@yahoo.co.uk. I apologise guys. It's not what I need right now either, another bloody faff to deal with. I massively appreciate all of your support for the site. Let me know the really specific problem ones and I'll sort it as best I can.

| Ads on here on 21:14 - Dec 21 with 849 views | Lanhoop | Next to a thread or under it seems to me to be perfectly acceptable and a reasonable price to pay. In the middle of a thread is effing annoying. IMHO. | | | |

Is that the one that's started appearing under the first posts? I think that used to disappear if you were logged in but now doesn't. Let's get a list compiled and I'll take it to FN Support before Christmas kicks in.

I wouldn’t mind, but ‘hearing aids for over 55’s’ is even relevant for most on here.

The main problem has been the ad at the bottom of the page as it partially hides the text in threads in the forum. (I didn't realise that this ad at the bottom of the page goes away when you are logged in until I saw your comment. There is nothing to tell you that the site ads behave differently depending on whether you are logged in or not, and we've never had to think about this before).

It did used to say in the top right hand corner 'members see fewer ads when signed in' but that's not there any more at present. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Ah, ok. I never noticed it before because there wasn't such a big difference between being logged in and logged out. I tend to switch devices so I am often logged out (when I have just switched to another device).

Mate, seriously, do an inventory or list on here, it's better for you guys to speak to Support rather than me and I can just give them this thread. We obviously don't want you using ad blockers, but I totally get it. We've got to strike the happy medium balance. If you become a Reach PLC website then people with won't click or they'll just block it out. All feedback genuinely really welcome on this so I can take specifics to Fans Network.

Thanks Clive. Apologies for adding something else to your plate. Will take screenshots and send if that's helpful. To be honest I think historically the way they've presented ads has nailed it. Forums where there's an ad between posts makes it really hard to follow the comments (I guess maybe that's the point to make it seem as if an ad is a post so people read it), but off to the side has always made the experience better.

Many years ago I was happily using an AdBlock including on this site. You pointed out that this was not good for the site's revenue, so I duly disabled my ad block for LfW. Then COVID hit and as I understand it the ad revenues completely tanked. The solution to this (and a very good one) was to set up the Patreon., which I am happy to subscribe to. I guess what my question is, is how much is the site reliant on ad revenue now. Has that revenue stream recovered after the pandemic? [Post edited 21 Dec 23:02]
