I have to say that sometimes you look back through highlights of games you lose and you think we were terrible. We weren't anywhere near our best last night but we weren't terrible.
The first goal is a freak but we should have defended it better. The touch their player gets completely wrong foots Dieng, there's nothing he can do and it's one of those things.
The second goal is really annoying because Balogun is up ended going forward. It's an obvious foul but then the ref let's that go, Deeney then traps the ball with his hand and then it hits the ref (which happens so that's not my beef). What's poor is that Iroegbunam doesn't cover Laird and put anything in to stopping the lad get his shot off. It's a good shot and a good goal but I noticed in the Cardiff game that Iroegbunam doesn't really get stuck in to a tackle or challenge. He needs to add that quick.
As for the penalty, I'm not even sure it is. The defender clears the ball and has no idea where Laird is. Laird gets caught in the face by a boot but there is no intention at all and the defender has cleared it. So I don't even think it was a penalty.
Dykes has got some pelters again for missing it but in fairness he hit it to the corner and hard. Ruddy makes a great save and I don't think he is off his line. The only criticism you can have of Dykes is that it was pretty obvious he was going to hit it to that side so he gave Ruddy a chance, possibly? But he hit it hard enough. Where Dykes falls short a bit is in the first half where he gets on to a loose ball, looks up to see where Ruddy is and shoots straight at him. That is something where that moment of thought eludes him. That said, he still puts a huge amount into games at the moment, so why the pelters?

My take on the key moments;
1-0; a bizarre fluke. It was a double contact and could have gone anywhere.
2-0; a worldie curled into the corner for the guy’s first goal in senior football. I doubt he will do anything else like that ever again.
Penalty save; unfortunately Dykes gave Ruddy (who is no mug, actually) the chance to make a save. Bottom corner (like Cardiff) or top bins please! |  | | |
