Rail Strike - Unable make about six or seven games now 12:41 - Jan 21 with 1394 viewsnumptydumpty

And today no strike but three trains in a row cancelled

To be honest I have zero respect for this strike

Loads other people short of dosh also.

Support NHS.

But average train drivers salaries around £70k.

I not able drive these days so like many rely on public transport, and the knock on effect of the strike ie nobody doing overtime so many trains cancelled on days services meant to be running.

My season ticket seat. Maybe people around me questioning if I am still on the planet.

Anyone else been effected by this.

Could be worse if I relied on the trains for my work.

I love spending weekends waiting on platforms full of frustrated travellers

Could be worse, could actually be at the games !!!

I'm on the train now for today's game, the first interrupted train journey since Wigan at home before Halloween.
Took me over five hours to get to and from West Brom home (should be two and a half tops) and missed Luton and Sheff Utd completely.
Complete ball ache compounded by our form over that period
We must be mad

Depends on who is on strike.
Train drivers are in ASLEF and are well paid. Most of the other rail staff are in RMT and are not especially well paid.
Pay in public sector is rising by about 3.5%, compared with private sector at 7.2% and inflation at 10.5%.
Poor pay rises in public sector has been the story for 10 years. No surprise the staff are p***Ed off.

All staff are pissed off, as nobodies wages are keeping up with inflation, but 90% of the population are getting on with it and not downing tools at everyone elses expense.

The private sector have actually been playing catch up for years as far as pay goes and what people don’t realise in the public sector is that a good number of workers get pay rises through a step up the pay scale. And there are many rungs to step up for most professions. In addition to this public sector part rises also means pay rises in their final/average salary pension scheme for when they retire. The private sector does not get this luxury. Sick pay benefits are far superior whereas many private sector employees will go straight onto SSP. Most do not have a bad pay package.

The trouble with the rail strike is that it affects so many other workers and so soon after businesses are struggling after the pandemic, it doesn't seem the time.

People on zero hours contracts must be losing out in the hospitality industry every time there's a rail strike. London was the emptiest I've ever seen it in the last time I got a train on a strike day (one of the few train lines operating and only until 6pm).

As said, lots of people who can't hold the country to ransom are also feeling the pinch and it only makes it worse for them every time there's a strike.

I just don't have much sympathy for them, given that everyone is feeling the pinch.

.Interesting that over those 10 years there have not been the number of strikes if any as there are now. Makes you wonder what the unions were doing then
