Rewind To This Day 1969.. 07:02 - Nov 29 with 476 viewsMarshy67

29 November 1969..
A great day for us kids as the snow was laying thick on the ground.
Not so good for football fans though as many games were postponed.
One that escaped that fate was the Division 1 (Championship) clash between Bolton and the R's.
Rangers down from Division 1 (Premier League) but not making much of a fist of acquiring a quick return due to an away record that had seen only 3 victories from 10 games.
So on a freezing Saturday afternoon just under 7000 hardy souls gathered at Burden Park to witness a goal-fest.
Having spent much of the day playing in the snow I came home to watch Grandstand and the teleprinter chattering out the full time scores.
Bolton....6 (SIX)....QPR...4.
Another away loss for the Superstripes (a change kit of red and black striped shirts and black shorts)
When my Dad and I went to the newsagent to pick up the Evening Standard the front page headline that I've never forgotten read..
QPR SCORE 4 AND STILL LOSE!
Despite the fact that Liverpool were at home to Arsenal (0-1 to the Gunners) Rangers claimed that Saturday evenings headline.(Imagine that )
Apart from a Charity cup game back in 1911 against Southend (away) (4-5) and war time games-not counted towards official records- versus Fulham in 1941 (home) (5-7) Crystal Palace (away) (4-7 ) Southampton (home) (4-5) both August 1944 the only time Rangers have scored 4 or more goals and still lost in a competitive match was back in January 1964 at home to Southend (4-5).
Thanks to Gordon Macey's Complete Record for that stat.

Was just marvelling at how you managed to summon up all that knowledge off the top of your head, Marshy (channelling the spirit of Derek Buxton maybe?) but then saw the Gordon Macey credit at the end. Top post nevertheless and took me back to 29th November 1969 when I would have been finding out that ‘big school’ wasn’t going to be quite as cushy as the juniors was. I do miss the teleprinter.
