They are charging more for the bigger games too.England fans have to pay more than Scottish fans will for their group matches. Absolutely disgraceful from infantiles corrupt fifa.

I get the supply and demand argument because America. Don’t like it but.. America (and Canada and Mexico, though I think it’s more FIFA than the hosts)
But surely they’ve misjudged this. Matches where there’s a huge diaspora locally or within a reasonable internal flight distance I’m sure will be busy but the accommodation prices are obscene along with flights and travel domestically. Just don’t see how enough people from even the main European nations are travelling nor enough locals filling the gaps. Maybe I’m wrong.

Unfortunately people will always find a way to be there.

Some will of course. I’m sure people have been saving up and this is their big thing every four years and good on them if it’s what they want to do. But 60-80000 or even a decent fraction of that? Just don’t see it.

It's sport not business (yeah, right!) Either way, 'supply and demand' can and should do one.
I'd love it (just love it) if fans put two fingers up to FIFA and America and boycotted/deserted the tournament. Half-empty stands would do wonders for the sponsors' spirits, I'm sure. If you're a player and you've got even a smidgen of socioeconomic consicence, you don't play, surely? (Yea, right!)

This world cup was always about the money, soon as the usa got it why else do you think they have intorduced 3 min hydration breaks each half ? yep adverts , imagine how much some companies will pay for a 3 mins advert in the world cup final ? arent they talking about some huge half time music event as well same as they do for the superbowl . so 15 min break becomes 20/25 at half time .

I honestly couldn't give a toss about the World Cup, I won't be watching or following any of it.
Fck em
We'll put you down as a no, then .
All joking aside, the prices are usurious .

Daniel Storey was reporting yesterday that you basically have to pay up front for every game through to the final, somewhere north of £5k, then apply for a refund as and when your team gets knocked out... and they apply a $50 handling charge to the refund!

So Scotland fans will only have to pay for the 3 group games then.

There is also a 400 admin fee on top of that for both getting the tickets and then again for your refund

In addition to the tickets there was a story on The Athletic that host city hotel prices have spiked up to 400%. I am in Vancouver at the moment and that is the case here- $2,000 a night for the downtown Marriott )that is nowt special) for June dates
There are seven games here including a few Canada games that will doubtless sell out but some real duffers too ( New Zealand - Egypt anyone?) the resale on those is already tanking.

The 3 minute breaks will be standard in every match whether it's hot or not. I think it's safe to say the American Broadcasters will be very happy with that.
The half time show in the final is also likely to extend that half time to at least 20 minutes
I'm across it all for work and worked on loads of these tournaments at ITV and this one is without doubt the biggest logistical nightmare we've ever faced.

That all sounds in line with the American broadcasting angle, absolutely.
It'll be a bit like baseball where the only clear positive is you can judge when the ads are coming, as opposed to American football and basketball where they take every possible opportunity to go to adverts.

Half empty stadiums would be nice. Spin that one Gianni. The peoples game ! What a load of boll ocks.
I'm hoping this is what will happen, but I suspect if there are not a lot of seats sold, they will just let in American fans in for hugely discounted prices or even free. I think that is what happened a few years ago at an African Cup of Nations tournament.

I saw that too. An absolute shocking way to treat football fans, but great way for FIFA to make a bit extra from each and every supporter prepared to even pay those ridiculous prices.
There will also be dynamic pricing to sell tickets foe even more money.
Glad I'm not going to go and watch the tournament.

The behaviour of US authorities, e.g. ICE, would deter many fans, especially from non-white countries. Its certainly put me off the prospect of going. Throw in rip off prices and its not hard to envisage empty stadiums.
