Amid all the excitement I forgot to mention that I got to meet Paul Parker in the club shop before the game. Absolute gentleman and one of my favourites from that era. Great start to what ended up being an epic day. Also chatted to Esquirdinha while I was getting my daughter’s shirt printed. He was getting a shirt with his name on it and he said he has a slight hamstring issue but thought he’d be back soon. Nice lad obviously still struggling with English so I think he’ll come good once he’s more settled.

I couldn’t really hear him at half time but did he say something about his signing stemming from the talks around the Fulham/QPR merger?

An assist to Lineker in the world cup semi final against Germany to equalise his own goal deflection of a German free kick.

Would have played a poor Argentina side bereft of Maradona in the World Cup Final after outplaying Germany in the semi apart from couple of poor pens in the shootout.

Parker would have been renowned forevermore and as a QPR player at the time too.

Would have had legend status and been a national treasure.

Thems the breaks Paulie !!!!

Never again will there ever be a chance a QPR player be in a World Cup Final Winning Team....

I think the 1990 England team is one of the best teams never to win the World Cup. Pity

I missed that too, never heard it before if so. Presumably in the book. If the talks had come a couple of years earlier, we might have got Houghton too!

IIRC we were watching Parker, Coney and Houghton for a long time but didn't close any deals. We missed out on Houghton, but when the merger collapsed we signed Parker and Coney because we still wanted them and Fulham needed money.

No way we outplayed West Germany in the final. End to end stuff and the quality on show and the occasion easily the best football match I’ve seen and been at.

Ok. I remember it differently but I guess memories might be a bit misty.

Wow. Being at that game. Incredible. Guessing there was a sharp intake of breath when Gascoigne got booked.

the Italy team that lost in the other semi-final were the best team in the tournament.
Baresi, Bergomi, Maldini, Donadoni, Schillachi. The young Baggio (along with Gazza) the breakout player of the tournament.
I wonder how an Italy v Germany or Italy v England final would've turned out.

It was lovely and long overdue to see Paul Parker again. What a top quality player he was. So quick, effective in the tackle, great in the air despite his diminutive stature and an excellent passer of the ball. No wonder Ferguson wanted him at Man U.

Came across as really down to earth and humble, despite the success he went on to have at that place, and his warm words about Macca were really poignant and heartfelt.

A thoroughly decent bloke and if that was his reception into the Forever Rs, it’s long overdue, especially considering his relatively recent charity fund raising bike rides. Glad it was done tho.

Proper Rangers Legend.

One of mine, and my Dad's, favourite players when I was a boy. I'll never forget his out jumping John Fashanu whenever Wimbledon turned up, he had this ability to just hang in the air. It must be a timing thing.

Couldn't hear a word what he was saying at halftime mind.
