Record Collectors of the board!!
at 21:25 31 Mar 2024

I am not really a collector but I do remember the Record And Tape Exchange-was it in Goldhawk Road? I thought that was excellent, always brought plenty of LPs back to Austria. It was pretty awkward as at that time I used to travel on trains. And as I usually went there when watching QPR I remember taking the records into the ground..Never had a problem...
Still buy a lot, but it is CDs nowadays, have not gone back to vinyl...(yet)...

Austria part two - just don't.
at 16:26 17 Jul 2023

Top report as usual... I am on holiday now myself and I have to say that the experiences you had in a week in Austria I never had in the more than sixty years I have been living here. Perhaps I am reading the wrong books... As for the game, I thought it was an ok performance, plenty of chances to score but scoring is something we don't do plus their keepers had inspired games. Next day in the newspaper I read Hartberg vs. Blackburn 0-6. Hartberg are in the top division over here, mid table usually... Well meaningless friendlies... Anyway great to see /meet so many of you and Clive... just keep going...

Clive, I know I said yesterday that we won't go to Steyr on Saturday but I already had doubts in my mind when I said it. So when my wife asked me on the way back why we don't go to Steyr I had no answer. Then I got a message from a mate saying he will go - to cut a long story short, we will be there on Saturday. As l said, regardless of this being a pre season friendly if we don't manage a half decent performance and a win against them it would be extremely embarrassing. They just got relegated from the second division and Oleg Blochin played for them in the Seventies so we don't have to fear him. Anyway hope to see you again on Saturday until then enjoy your Austrian Tour...

I was at that game too, but I went to an Irish Pub in the City center with a couple of mates... No beer this time as I have to drive home after the game, but I know they have got some decent ones up there...

So game one of the new season is nearly upon us. I have decided to go to the Slavia game and I will be setting off on Friday morning. Luckily I can tie in some work commitments that day, then stay overnight somewhere close by and have an enjoyable Saturday - hopefully. It will take me over three hours by car one way and I know friendlies are meaningless, too many substitutions, tired players and the weather forecast says it is going to be hot but you know what? I am really looking forward to the game...

It is the tour organisers who organise opponents and venues so it is down to them. As there are many foreign clubs in Austria for summer training camps they should have enough experience. There is a second game by the way in a decent stadium against an admittedly not so attractive opponent. It's the one I will go to, it will take me more than two hours by car each way...

Actually I would be very surprised if the game is not played in Rohrbach Berg. It is very common that friendlies during training camps take place at lower league grounds. By the way where are QPR based during the camp? Anyway I will try to phone the local club tomorrow to find if they know anything about it (today is a holiday over here)

I certainly can't claim to know much about the area, but the address of Rohrbach Berg may well be correct. The local team seems to play in the fifth tier seemingly. Anyway I have more chance to make the Vorwärts Steyr game. They have been relegated by the way... Their claim to fame.. Oleg Blochin used to play for them in the Eighties... 41 games, 9 goals (ok, I looked that up)

QPR Ladies' Team

Another one who is taking an interest in the Ladies games, Obviously living in Austria I can't get to QPR games but my stepdaughter plays and will be joining Austria Vienna under 16 in the summer. She already played for the U19 in an Indoor Tournament and there really was some impressive football on show. So all I can say is support the girls, it is honest football with no little skill...

I was at the Austria Vienna game too and in the Flanagans Pub in the City center afterwards, quite a few R's were there...

Congratulations, really enjoyed that and a staunch QPR supporter scoring the winning goal was wonderful. The Lionessess are playing here in Austria on September 3rd,probably their first game after this triumph. It is a World Cup qualifier, but both teams are through already... Anyone considering to come over? I will be there, probably wearing my QPR shirt..

Thanks, thats very kind, of course all the best to your daughter too . My stepdaughter played in a mixed team before, but she went to the only girls team in the area because she knew quite a few of the players from the district team . You are right as far as competitiveness is concerned, but it is ridiculous that we can´t get a League together not even from the surrounding districts Burgenland (where I live), Lower Austria and Vienna.
As for yesterday`s game, I agree we played well and made England sweat at times, but still it was a deseved win, no doubt.

My 13year old stepdaughter also plays and as she is a Goalkeeper she absolutly idolises Zinsberger who played well yesterday. So I get to see many Girls/Women games, I even coached a Ladies Team for one season. Nowadays I refuse to watch World Cups or Champions League or similar competitions because of who and what is involved - including the Players. So, the main attraction of Ladies Football is the honesty I think. I just hope it stays that way even if -as it looks-more money gets involved.
A pity that QPR haven`t got a decent Ladies Team as I would recommend my stepdaughter as one for the future, she will try to get into the main Girls Academy here in Austria next year, the talent is there. Actually if she was a boy she would have been scouted by one of the big Clubs in the area, this just doesn´t happen for girls. They say there is a boom, but her Team has to play in a Boys League here...

The funny thing is that Chukwuemeka was actually born in Eisenstadt, Austria, my hometown. Seemingly his family lived here for a while so he could play for Austria too, I wonder if that thought ever crossed his mind. But it is ok should he become the first ever England international from Eisenstadt, I don't think there have been many - if any - who played for Austria..

History of AKUTRs - Patreon
at 15:46 26 Mar 2021

Listened to Part 1,it is highly enjoyable, not so easy for me though. While my English is quite OK, I do have to concentrate to get everything, so usually I prefer reading. I was a AKUTR's subscriber from the very beginning and could hardly wait for the new issue back in the day. Dave Thomas did (and still does) a great job. Unfortunately later life got in the way so I lost touch and the subscription. When the recent Loft For Words / A Kick Up The R's offer came up I quickly took it up. I was quite flattered when David mentioned in his mail that my name was the only familiar one from the old times. Anyway, I think we are really lucky to have high quality with LFW and AKUTR's, long may that continue!

He is indeed Rapid Vienna`s captain and their most influential player ... their heart and soul as they say. He is also in or around the national squad but hardly plays.
Rapid are trying to negotiate a new contract with him - they finished second and have the chance to get into the Champions League. That could well be the reason that he will stay. On the other hand even a poor club in England will pay three or four times as much as a big club here in Austria...
Anyway there are a few Rapid Season Ticket holders where I work and they are all keen for him to stay...

We've never had an Austrian

I only know of Austrians who scored against us , one was even cheeky enough to score at a game where I was present...As far as I know Heinz Lindner was on trial in autumn, but he has since gone to Wiesbaden in Germany and there was supposed interest in a couple but I forgot the names ... can`t have been too exciting though ...
