Excellent. Just what the doctor ordered; a win and a clean sheet.

Thanks for the comms, Bryan.

Bristol City with a taste of their own medicine. Forest a different team since Hughton departed.

Is there a change of formation or is someone dropping into CM?

So that's why we've conceded so many goals this season.

You can breathe easy, Disco. Richard isn't in the matchday squad.

No Moses in the matchday squad. Albert in, with Kakay on the bench.

Dom and Dozzell the CM pair. Hold on to your hats folks.

Good luck to Charlie and the boys tonight. I'd be more than happy for him to ram my words down my throat by coming on and scoring a brace.

It's almost November and Charlie has scored 1 goal in the Championship. Just 1, against Barnsley back in August!

The much derided Andre Gray has scored 2. No one leaps to Andre's defence suggesting that perhaps it's the supply line that's lacking. Charlie, meanwhile, can do no wrong.

I don't think anyone is writing him off. He's still more than capable of lighting up this division but he has to knuckle down and get fit.

On the contrary, it's firm but fair. On Saturday Charlie was gassed after 60 minutes. He's also carrying too much timber. This is high-level professional football, not Hackney Marshes.

Struggling to run by the end of the game is a wholly different proposition to blowing out of your arse after 60 minutes. He's unfit, period.

Yep, lunch and a pint by the river is always a nice start to derby day. It's a shame the football had to ruin it.

A sad indictment on politics in general that the only time politicians of different persuasions come together is when an MP is senselessly murdered. RIP David.

No disrespect to anyone but I always find arguments like 'no one knows what players earn' or 'he was on a free' rather lazy and disingenious. Accounts are in the public domain and information on wages isn't difficult to find.

I can understand that some find the topic of players wages unpalatable. After all, it'll take the average joe around 8 years to earn what Charlie picks up in 2 months. However, as unsavoury as you may find such topics it doesn't mean that we don't know. We do, some just don't care to admit it. That's your prerogative but don't speak for all.

No worries, Brian. I could see now how my original post could have been misconstrued by anyone unfamiliar with the film or the quote, hence why I edited it. Apologies to traininvain for any offence caused (albeit inadvertently).

On the subject of wages, I don't think that the club has broken its wage structure to sign Charlie but, given his pedigree, the position he plays and the salary he previously commanded, I think it's fair to assume that he's is one of the higher, if not highest, earners at the club. In any event, regardless of what he earns the minimum requirement for a professional footballer is to be fit and work hard.

Shape/Personnel
at 18:23 17 Oct 2021

I'm glad that you pointed out both shape and personnel because for me it's a combination of the two. When one is managing a small squad on a limited budget, tactical flexibility is key because a handful of injuries will put paid to best laid plans.

In the second half of last season QPR were very fortunate to avoid injuries which meant that MW could rely on the same tried-and-trusted personnel to execute his favoured formation. This season he's largely persevered with the same shape despite sometimes lacking the personnel to do the job; the most obvious example of this was Barnsley at home when both LWBs were injured and Moses was suspended, yet he selected Kakay at LWB, shoe-horned Thomas at RWB and started Dozzell in CM in order to go with his preferred formation. It was only when he switched to 4 at the back and brought on players who should have started that QPR began to get a foothold in the game and ultimately eeked out a result.

In the first half of last season MW was equally stuck in his ways until wretched form and the January transfer window forced a rethink and a change of tack. MW, of course, should be commended for having the courage to change it up but I can't help thinking that it was last throw of the dice of a manager hanging on the precipice. Thankfully we came through that and have improved but I'd like to see MW demonstrate the same flexibility in his tactical thinking on a weekly basis, particularly when a number of players are injured, suspended or out-of-form.

By all means have a preferred formation but if the right players are not available to execute, then go with another shape that suits the players at your disposal.

Bless you Brian, I'm not. It's a quote from the film 'Jerry Maguire'. Nevertheless in the interests of brotherhood I've edited the post.

And we do have an idea on wages. Somewhat disingenuous and convenient to suggest otherwise.
