Dragan Solak Suggests That Transfer Flop Can Still Be A Hit At St Mary's
at 13:29:36

If Tonda thinks there's something there he can work with then I would trust his judgement.

The only player that didn't really improve last season was Robinson but he had an odd season. At the beginning of the season he was the only player who looked to have any flair about him but once Tonda arrived and others started to step up, Robinson dropped back a little. But only relatively speaking.

Let's see what Tonda can do with them both. I don't think Tonda flogs dead horses.

Ross Stewart Shows That Saints Players Will Put Their Own Interests Before Morals
at 09:17:22

Focusing on a player's 'morals' is ridiculous.

Saints were aware of the terms of the contract and they could have exercised the option at any time.

If there was any ambiguity on what the 'end of the season' meant within the terms of the contract the Club could have clarified that issue with the player is his representatives, or exercised the option in good time to avoid any issues.

If the Club weren't rushing to extend Ross Stewart's contract why does he have a moral duty to allow them to exercise an option that might already have expired?

EFL Decision Still Leaves Unanswered Questions In All Areas Of The Report
at 12:40:30

In answer to Dirk's question: 'Who picked the members of this independent commission?' you'd have to think it was Sports Resolutions, an organisation to which the ELF outsources the management of tribunals.

SainteSimon, please post evidence (links is fine) about Bannerjee's links to Boro. I can't find any and would be genuinely interested to see them.

EFL Decision Still Leaves Unanswered Questions In All Areas Of The Report
at 11:22:21

This is a fair summary.

On the Lydia Bannejee connections to Boro, I've come to the conclusion that that information is likely false. At least, I'm not believing it until I see some concrete evidence to support it.

But having a Boro player as a judge stinks, even if it was only one game 30 years ago.

My questions would be:

Did he disclose this (and I would very surprised if he didn't); and
If he did, why did Saints let that slide?

It's interesting that this issue is not referred to in the decision. I would have thought that had it been raised, that would be noted together with Saints' agreement to nevertheless proceed.

The EFL or the Club should clarify.

Ironic Twist To Spygate As Middlesbrough Legend In Spying Allegation.
at 10:43:14

I think you had made enough pernicious allegations against Chris Rea without landing him with writing The Lady in Red too.

Chris de Burgh wrote that soppy drivel.

I fear an apology is needed before Rea's estate are in touch about defamation.

Media Frenzy has Blown Up Spygate Out Of All Proportions
at 10:25:06

You complain of a media frenzy and I agree that the hand-wringing when people don't know the facts has been spectacular.

But tbh you don't know the facts either, so I wonder whether you are simply adding to the 'media' free-for-all.

Questions that the EFL will hopefully answer, are:

1. What was William Salt doing?
2. Was he doing it on the instruction of someone at Saints FC.

If the answers to these questions are: nothing underhand or no, then nothing to see here.

But if the answers are: quite a bit, and because someone at Saints asked him to, then it gets messier.

But let's maybe wait to get some clear answers to these questions before getting too excited either way.

If someone at the Club has directed Salt to break the rules on spying then I would guess the next question will be who did that and who else at the Club knew about it. The owners will want to protect the reputation of the Club and may want to distance themselves from/make an example of the instigator to do that.

Let's hope Tonda was not involved in any way.

Will Still Set For Return To Football Management
at 09:20:40

Anyone unsure about why it didn't work for him in the UK only needs to watch that recent Podcast interview he did. He seemed completely clueless about what managing in England was all about.

Bon chance to him if he can continue his career back in France. I am not sure what exactly that says about the French league, but if he fits in better there, then great. I don't see him managing PSG any time soon.

Southampton V Ipswich Town The Verdict
at 16:21:45

It was always going to be a massive ask to win this game, but we again came back from a goal down to take the lead.

Ipswich had everything to play for at 2-1 down, and they are a strong team, and their equaliser was one of those where the ball was bouncing all over the box, it wasn't easy to get it under control and it fell nicely to Jack Clarke.

For me, it's likely that we would have been tighter at the back had Stephens been playing.

I think we need a strong performance at Deepdale, if only to get back a bit of the relentless dominance that took us into the play offs in the first place.

Southampton V Ipswich Town The Preview
at 11:04:42

This feels like the 2nd toughest test of the season to me. Not least because of the physical and emotional energy expended on Saturday.

But four days after beating Arsenal, we won 5-1 away at Wrexham, so this team knows how to reset and go again.

I think it's going to be a great night.

Ipswich Boss Worried About Squad Fatigue For Trip To Southampton
at 16:06:31

I like the optimism, Nick.

This could be a real 'rope-a-dope' match between two heavyweights dead on their feet.

Maybe it's a chance for the fresh legs of an Edozie and Robinson to add their own significant contributions to this season.

Last 20 minutes are going to be interesting, when the fatigue has really kicked in!

Southampton V Manchester City The FA Cup Semi Final Verdict
at 11:52:20

Already at 75 mins I thought the team had been absolutely fantastic, holding City to 0-0.

But the goal just put a cherry on the top. What a goal! And what a joy to be there to see that hit the back of the net.

Nathan Jones Shows Lack Of Class After His Return To St Mary's

He's got some front referencing the Carabao Cup. The team he started in the semi-final at Newcastle was a disgrace.

He got lucky against City. Goals from Mara and Djneppo were hardly planned or predictable.

Southampton V Charlton Athletic The Verdict
at 10:07:26

Charlton were very lucky to get a point and we were very unlucky not to win.

What I feel is that we have finally thrown off the Russell Martin mindset and we finally - it has taken a while - look and play like a proper team. And that includes having Peretz in goal. At this level the keeper is not going to save everything but Bazunu always felt like a mistake waiting to happen.

We're not going to face a team with the siege mentality of Charlton every week.

The Daily Echo Hints At Where The Problems Are In Saints Dressing Room
at 11:09:29

Replacing sold players with weaker ones is the story of the last few years.

But I can't believe even these clowns have given up on this season at this stage. As you say, we're not impossibly far behind the pay off slots.

And it's not surprising that some players are unhappy and maybe being difficult. We're all pissed off and we're not in the middle of this sh!tshow. Can you imagine the confusion and mixed messaging that is coming the players' way at the moment?

And good luck Wolves if they think Armstrong is going to help them in the PL. He has been hopeless in that league.

Tonda Eckert Set To Get More Time But Are Saints Biding Their Time For Their Man To Be Available
at 11:26:44

I was encouraged that Solak cut out the usual dithering and ditched Still relatively quickly.

I really hope they are not now messing about again, hedging their bets around Frank possibly becoming available while they have stumbled upon a very good manager already.

Tonda Eckert Hits The Top Spot In Bookies Favourites List
at 09:39:41

Unless a spectacularly experienced or successful (in this league) manager might be available, I wouldn't rush to appoint anyone.

Anyone else is going to be as much of a gamble as sticking with Eckert.

The face that Eckert has won the last two games needs to be taken seriously. We hadn't won back to back games in 18 months and neither have we have much of a new manager bounce.

The next three games will give us much more information about Eckart. I would give him those and then let's see.
