At this point it might actually be harder to think of a QPR player that hasn’t managed a national side! |

This made me giggle! I can't remember any MM host ever saying "well... yes but that's not the one I was thinking of" |

Ray Wilkins managed Jordan for a while. Funnily enough I only know this as I was trying to convince my daughter this morning that we should call our prospective dog 'Ray' so went onto his Wiki page to show her how many games for England he'd played... and there it was. |

It's not even August yet and this problem is already rearing its head. Right we don't know about the fitness of Saito, Madsen, Kone, Kolli, Obikwu and Smith. That's in addition to Lamptey and Dembele who we do know a bit about. I think there are two problems here... 1 - That list is far too long for this point in pre-season. If their bodies are failing now God knows how they're going to hold up against a 48 / 50 game season. 2 - The abyss of information. We know nothing about the first five players on that list. Maybe they were rested, maybe it was precautionary, maybe their legs resemble Lieutenant Dan's. We know nothing about that scale. Sorry for sounding like a stuck record but if the club just solved problem number 2 - which is entirely an election - this sort of just negativity / scepticism / anxiousness wouldn't exist amongst the fanbase. Many people have been saying this for a LONG time. They completely bring this upon themselves. It's ridiculous. |

Pretty sure that was Psycho as I've heard a story about Brian Clough bringing his kettle into the changing room and telling him to have it mended by Monday! |
 | Forum Reply | Obikwu - Injured again at 16:18 23 Jul 2026
Numpty you've completely changed your tune since the OP. You clearly alluded to a belief that he may not be injured and that the club may be covering up another issue by using an injury as a 'smoke screen'. There's absolutely no evidence to suggest he is actually injured at all let alone that the club is covering up some other sinister issue with the guy. That's the issue with your thread. Acting like the victim after the fact and claiming your point was about the stringency of our medicals is just gas lighting. The old bait and switch. Hope you don't leave but think you got this one wrong so maybe better to take accountability for it and put it behind you. |

I distinctly remember that second quote. It was preceded with "Great place to play a cup tie, this." I was the last one waiting for his autograph on SA Road that night but he just got into the car that was waiting for him when it got to my turn. When he noticed he'd left one out he stopped the car and wound down the window to make sure I got mine too. Definitely a gent. RIP. |
 | Forum Thread | Club Shop... Or lack of at 10:39 20 Jul 2026
Does anyone else get a little annoyed with the lack of variability, stock and sizes? There are so many items that are just perennially out of stock or only available in sizes designed for hobbits. The Home Classic FM retro shirt - Out of stock in every size. Feels like it has been for months. Influence away - Only available up to a 44 inch chest which I haven't had since I was about 14. Been looking for a fairly plain t shirt for summer hols. We only sell 6 mens t shirts. One is for Pride. Four have large designs emblazened all across them, only one has a simple stitched crest in navy; that's available up to a 42 inch chest. I've had this frustration for some time - Going back to last season. Does anyone know if / when they refresh design lines or stock? I was hopeful after the stock take a few weeks ago we might launch some new stuff or at least back fill the stock of the current stuff... But nothing. I'd imagine this time of year might be quite popular for people wanting to buy stuff for summer holidays... There ain't much to choose from at all. There's no seasonality to the items at all, there are more jackets and hoodies on there at the moment than there are t shirts and it's barely dipped below 30 degrees for a month. I feel like we could be missing a bit of a revenue trick here. Aren't there some tried and tested methods of flogging merch lines that we could go down? Right now the socials and our inboxes should be flooded with ads pushing a 'rep your club on your travels' type message. We never seem to do anything like that. The range of choice really is quite poor. It should never really be that a fan actively wants to spend money on merch but can't due to range and availability for months on end, should it? I’m not saying he should have been taken to this World Cup. My point is a more general one about his technical talent being wasted playing so high up the pitch. If he were Spanish there is no way he would have been nurtured to become a winger. It’s likely too late for him to change and learn it now but until we start producing players with his technical ability that play behind the ball in attacking phases we’ll always struggle for possession and territory when the chips are down in major tournaments. We just don’t produce nor nurture players than will dictate tempo as metronomes. Largely because they’re not wildly effective in the premier league. If Barcelona had signed Foden at 16 he’d probably be a Xavi clone by now and we might be in a World Cup final. |

That’s because he plays exclusively ahead of the ball until the final third. Which was the entire point. We should be teaching players like him from a young age how to tackle and press. Modric and Foden are almost identically sized. Pirlo is a couple of inches taller but actually played a few kilos lighter than Foden so I can’t see any reason whatsoever he couldn’t be taught the off the ball stuff. He has the elite touch and vision that is rare in an English player and he can’t even find his way into a World Cup squad. Feel like his talent is being totally wasted. [Post edited 17 Jul 22:45]

It’s not hard to look superb though is it when every single time they had possession they could amble unopposed to the edge of the penalty area, had wide men in acres of space on both flanks - one of them the best player in the history of the sport - and were afforded all the time they wanted to pick a pass, shot, or cross. Not taking anything away from them as they took advantage ruthlessly and 2-1 flattered us. But our shape and pressing patterns having been near perfect for an hour became an utter disgrace. Well… completely non existent actually. We’d have lost to every single last 16 team had we done the same thing against any one of them. [Post edited 17 Jul 22:44]

So much truth in this post. It's a real shame Carsley had those dodgy games when in temporary charge because that should have been the succession plan. I also really loved Carsley's balls in picking Angel Gomes as he clearly understands the necessity for a midfielder like that and is equally understanding of the severe lack of English ones. I don't understand why we constantly play our most technical players as far up the pitch as possible in this country. We've done it over and over and over and that's the reason we've never had an English Pirlo or Modric. Phil Foden for example has all the technical ability of either of those two. If he played 20 yards deeper consistently he could be the missing piece in the puzzle. |

Disagree with this. You can't compare the behavior of drunken louts in pubs to that of millionaire footballers literally on a world stage. Any such political statement from a pot bellied prat in a pub is going to get a reach of a about 26 people. What those idiots did on the pitch will have been seen by half the globe. They have a responsibility as role models and they should not be using a fifa platform to make or imply political messages. If you're going to excuse their players' behaviour by comparison of extreme public behavior of our nationals... you can do the same in reverse. Would it be excusable for English players to spit on and burn Argentinian flags on the pitch after the game? As that's what Argentinian idiots have been doing outside bars back home. |

Hunter you're making a pretty massive assumption there. Especially given your last paragraph is worded as if the prior one is factual. [Post edited 17 Jul 10:11]

"A few issues here. It was a foul, but uncalled in the moment. Egypt was up 2-0 and cruising, so did they really need that third goal? (Ed note: They really did.) The tournament’s biggest star was about to be sent packing, probably for good." It was 1-0 when Egypt's goal was disallowed, not 2-0 and they weren't cruising. You'd think an article claiming that subjective mistakes are linearly correlative to corruption might have spent 30 seconds doing some fact checking. The Swiss red wasn't a red it was a second yellow and you'll struggle to find a more obvious example of diving. Think he got what he deserved. He must be amongst the thickest people on the planet to have done that. I can't get my head around how VAR would watch the Mexico penalty vs England and deem that worthy of overturning a decision to ensure a penalty is awarded... Only then for them to review the challenge on Spence last night with enough conviction that it isn't a penalty to overturn it the other way. That's a far better example of favoritism I'd say. |

Brian any minimal chance of us having a nibble at the top 6 last year was ripped to shreds by about 85% of our squad losing significant time with soft tissue injuries. And you're complaining about them not 'fighting for shirts' and showing a lack of urgency one week into preseason in a meaningless game. I'd far prefer us to lose every friendly and be at 100% peak fitness come the first league game of the season than players miss sections of their preseasons after busting a gut away at First Vienna in 30 degree heat on July 11th. I think you're unusually way off the mark on this one. |
