Transfer rumours 2024

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Watling

"On 25 July 2022, Watling was appointed First Team Development coach at Championship side Queens Park Rangers.[5] Watling helped guide the Rs to the top of the Championship before departing for Rangers in late 2022."

Judging by the selective context and all the grammatical errors it looks like he updates his own Wikipedia page.

Of Chair's back injury, QPR CEO Christian Nourry said:

"The patient presents with a disruption in the structural and functional integrity of the vertebral column, characterized by a herniation of the intervertebral disc and subsequent radiculopathy. Specifically, there is a prolapse of the nucleus pulposus through the annulus fibrosus, leading to impingement on the adjacent neural structures, including the dorsal root ganglia. This displacement causes mechanical compression and subsequent inflammatory mediators release, resulting in nociceptive signaling along the corresponding spinal nerve root. But no bloody chance will I be telling you how long he's out for."

They've said publicly in a fans' forum they're working with the council around regenerating LR. And there are people on this very thread that seem to prove they're in discussion with architects. Someone must be willing to foot the eventual bill or confident they can raise funds or they wouldn't have bothered getting that far.

I don't doubt Ruben would be out of here in an instant if he could get a bit of cash back but perhaps LR in it's current form is part of what's stopping him from doing so - both in terms of P&L and on-pitch product. I'm not sure Ruben's ideal exit route and the regeneration of LR at his expense have to be mutually exclusive.

First NFL Game
at 14:39 9 Sep 2024

Sorry mate, wasn't having a pop at you - more so the argument as I watch a lot of NFL and hear it a lot from mates. It really is a wonderful, fascinating, strategic game. If you watch it from a frame of mind of observing deliberate, turn-by-turn strategy rather than an equivalent of football, it really does flow a lot better than our football which is littered with dishonesty and conning officials. Not everyone's cup of tea though of course.

It always makes me laugh when a football fan - particularly one of a Championship club - claims the NFL is too 'stop/start'.

At least the stops in NFL are legal and premeditated. It flows about a billion times better than every single Championship game I'll watch this season.

The ball is in play 52.3% of the time in the Championship on average. You likely spend about 46 minutes every week waiting for football to be played again. Until the EFL find a way to stop players literally standing still waiting to be booked for time wasting this is no argument at all.

Just going to ignore the three links I’ve already posted that explain the free agents have to have been free agents at the close of the transfer window?

I’m going to give up trying to explain that this isn’t true. Anyone else fancy a go?

I don't think it has anything to do with being named in the squad - the squads aren't finalised for another week anyway. It's whether he was registered to another club at the end of the transfer window last Friday; which he was.

I think we can forget about him until January at the earliest.

I'm pretty sure it is.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transfer_window

"Free agents can be signed by a club at any time during the season, if they had been released by their previous club before the end of the transfer window."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6971785.stm

"Players who are out of contract and do not have a club, can be signed outside of the transfer window if they are unattached free agents when the window closes."

It's not stopping them gaining employment. We can sign him this afternoon if we so wish. He won't be eligible to play until the next Transfer Window opens in January though.

I know it’s been said many, many times before but I am so, so proud to have Sinton as club ambassador and of all the work he has done. He really has helped make QPR smell like QPR again. It’s an important thing that we completely lost when the F1 idiots fiddled with us and it shouldn’t be taken for granted.

Super stuff.

Frey / Celar V Dykes / S Armstrong
at 12:27 5 Sep 2024

Not really a fair contest given one of them is playing a level below ours.

I definitely feel more comfortable with Frey and Celar than I would have felt had we only had Dykes and Armstrong though.

Frey's performance in the second half last Friday was the best performance by a Striker for QPR for 10 years I would have said.

Still not sure that's right...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/clynp5j0pnyo

This says "Players can still be signed. But they had to be out of contract and not registered at a club when the deadline passed."

Hayden would have been registered to Newcastle when the deadline passed and therefore not eligible to play for any new side now until January.

I thought you could only sign unattached players that were unattached at the end of the deadline between transfer windows? Did I dream that?

Jack Draper storms into semi-final of US Open
at 09:16 5 Sep 2024

A thread about Jack Draper reaching the US Open semi finals descends into thinly veiled criticism of a young slam-winning female tennis player for doing too much 'promotional activity' in about 15 posts.

I thought we'd be past this by now.

Nardi

Aside from the exceptional saves last night the guy has an energy and bounce about him that's infectious. It somehow feels like the whole team has more energy this season and I feel like a good part of that is driven by Nardi. Couldn't be much further from Begovic who felt like he did the exact opposite.

So far he feels like a wonderful, wonderful signing.

In 2022/23 Birmingham made £3.5m less revenue than us and spent £3.5m more on wages. £7m worse contribution to P&S (outside of transfer fees.)

Anything they do in that division ultimately will eventually contribute to their 3 year rolling P&S situation assuming they get back up.

I can't even begin to comprehend how they think they'll get away with this. Is the singular plan to get promoted twice and be out of the football league before they come calling for the points deduction?

And to think there was pretty widespread panic about us signing a couple of players for a couple of million this summer... the year after a £20m loss dropped out of the three year cycle. We can't even be in the conversation about clubs that look dodgy against P&S.

He was absolutely immense in that second half. Unbelievable performance. It’s been a long long time since we had someone lead the front line like that. Never let them settle, everything stuck to him, progressed the ball, got in the box. What more could you ask for? 10/10 in the second half.

But clearly Marti isn't comfortable with Hevertton at fullback yet and clearly Cannon isn't an option so that suggests that Dunne was on the hook to play 100% of minutes of 100% of games at right back. I can't imagine Marti wanted him to start in the League Cup on Tuesday and then again on Friday night but was left with no choice.

Agree with the nervousness around guaranteed playtime for the loan lad but I absolutely think we need another number at right back.

There's 80m between the end of the Imre Close gardens and the other side of SA Road. LR's School End currently measures 106m.

There is definitely not enough room for that.
