Easy, if they want. Linesman carries a stock plastic discs (Pink? Why not?). Drops one at the key point, player must have a foot on or behind disk when he executes the throw in. If not, then throw-in for the other side. Linesman picks up disc at leisure.
It would be a serious change. Forcing a throw-in would no longer be a soft option (think about it). |

I can't say I blame them. Setting out to come home through mid-Wales at 10pm, getting home just before 2am. Traffic laws are rigidly enforced in mid-Wales, until 5pm Friday, after that not so much.
Plus a few wives will have conducted a quiet campaign. The whole of Saturday gone then a lie in needed on Sunday? So no taking the kids to whatever on Sunday morning. "Stay home and watch it on the tele, and I'll do the beer". |

I see a number of West Ham fans are saying that the football is much more fun in the Championship and some Wolves supporters agree with them.
Am I allowed to want Swansea to completely smash the league, trounce every team we play, Champions by a huge margin of points - and not get promoted?
No? OK, I will keep it secret then. OTOH, I probably don't need to worry. |

Eom is looking like the AM we haven't had in years. The team is playing some beautiful football. The defence is looking strong, organized and very hard to over power, hard to crack open. We have three strikers, not 'the striker', three of them, and all formidably good.
Sod league position at this stage (although top is nice), it's the football that matters atm. |

Vertigo in those over 40 is often caused by BPPV, for which there is a simple treatment, the Epley maneuver is almost always a successful. It's caused by the junk that collects in the sack at the bottom of the balance canals with age getting disrurbed and straying into the canals. A whack to the head is the most common cause (car accident).
If it has come along with loss of hearing it's probably disease, which is a different thing all together. [Post edited 1 Sep 0:43]

I don't have a study I can point to. I have personal experience of vertigo few years ago. Crawling to the khazi on all fours, splayed, because I had conflicting signals on what was 'up', followed by 2 hours of throwing up. The strange flick, pause, flick of the 'visual image' I was seeing.
The rest of it is information I've picked, both from investigating my own experience and family. As a thought experiment: You wake up in a strange room from a deep sleep. How long does it take to register where you are, and how the room looks. If sight was immediate, you would open your eyes and immediately 'see' the whole room. But you don't, it takes a few seconds to build the visual image from blank with a room you don't know.
Talking while driving is dangerous in traffic. In business I always enforced the protocol that if the person driving says 'traffic' (hands free or I cut the conversation) then conversation stops until they restart it. OTOH on a highway with nothing within 200 metres they can safely chat happily. But they are looking at the road, they have the visual image, so it's a lot safer than interacting with their screen. |

The reason why watching a video waiting at the lights is dangerous is because of the way our vision works.
We don't actually directly 'see', we have a constructed model of reality in our mind. Data from the eyes is the primary source of information updating that, also balance to a lesser extent, with a very minor input from hearing. That model is always slightly behind reality, and if you get vertigo with conflicting inputs from eyes and balance and you will find it 'flicks' with a firm image about once a second. Plus you throw-up.
If you look down at the car radio that image is only very partially replaced, and when you look up, it's back fully almost immediately. If you watch a video, play a game on your phone, or text, it is entirely replaced and has to be constructed from nothing when you look up again. What comes back first is tunnel vision then over about 2 seconds (longer for the elderly) full peripheral vision is reconstructed. During that time, during which you have moved off and are now driving, your appreciation of hazards beyond the bumper in front of you is almost zero. That's why it's dangerous.
Having said that, I think I would prefer people in a 10mph motorway queue happily on their phone looking at the traffic, than sitting there losing their temper. So get a dashmount. |
