Been posted elsewhere, but this is the sort of excellent information that could've been shared at a fans forum had it lasted long enough and questions been asked. Insightful from our reps, and some wise words from Huw Jenkins who is vastly experienced in the game.
Indeed. It now seems clear that parts of the "club establishment" did not want the forum, and obviously couldn't cancel it without controversy. (They may have expected vitriol, they got none. The pre-forum "message from the board" worked in that respect.) So, they manipulated it, ordering the MC to run it like he did to protect Watson from some of the deserved questions raised by his actions. Shut it down ASAP, impose a time limit but don't tell anyone. Even in much darker days, that has never happened before at a Fans Forum. That is NOT what a Dale Fans Forum is about. It is not a criticism of Ian Watson, who stayed on and spoke to supporters. It is not a criticism of the MC operating under orders, but a criticism of a very cynical manipulation of a bi-annual event, hosted by Dale Trust, by certain people at the club.
It was noted that none of the Ogden family or their appointed board members were there, but why should they travel and incur costs for a 53 minute meeting?
At a time when so many good things are happening off the pitch, we don't need divisive tricks like that. Hopefully, a lesson learned because those of us in attendance and Dale Trust will no doubt want visible timelines at least for the next event. We don't forget stunts like that.
At least none of the top table resorted to pretending to cry á la Roger.
The CEO suggested we recommend people come into Ratcliffes and experience/ use the fantastic media wall. Dockerty couldn't wait to shut down the forum so people would leave. Not even an invite to stay on and watch the man u game and buy more ale. I heard Dockerty say he was "told" to close the meeting by 7:45. Nobody before or at the Forum was told this. With the club doing brilliant things off the pitch, it's not good they are trying to deny further questions.
Including the friendlies and league cup games, we've seen one occasion against a very poor team for Watson to hang his hat on. The other games have been clueless, disorganised rubbish. They are on Watson. Today especially. You can tell when something isn't going right at Dale. A lot of fans have had that feeling for weeks. Have the board noticed? They need to and act fast. All the good work that was done getting us back into the EFL can't be thrown away on a manager who isn't up to the job.
An enjoyable game from Dale for the first time since Watson took charge. Granted, The Shrews weren't great but Dale were faster and more attacking. Good subs too. Danny Moss was exceptional.
Smiling tonight, but that is one win in 10. "One flower does not make a garland". Hoping we can keep up this far more impressive version of Dale.
Sort of agree. But, whatever he has or hasn't done in the past, IW has been godawful here, which matters more than any past stat.
Steve Parkin (first time, experienced with Mansfield) was fantastic. Hill was an instant success on zero experience. Luck of the draw? Maybe, and it's been very bad luck with IW.
Watson looked good on paper, I get the appointment. However, I doubt anyone would have expected a manager to be so incompetent, injuries or not. The three year deal suggests a massive clanger has been dropped. I hope the get out clauses are good. The coaching manual clichés, the "we must improve", yet we remain as awful as we were in the friendlies and the Carabao Cup. The signings, selections, "tactics" (non-existent?) and bewildering substitution record defy logic.
Watson's team is miserable to watch. Entertainment value is almost zero. The momentum of last season has almost disappeared. What will all the new season card holders make of it? You can't sustain or grow a business or community by letting one of the main dudes offer up rubbish at every opportunity. The fantastic investment that has driven the club forward so much cannot be reversed by Watson and the back up staff he brought with him, just to save face. The club comes first, always.
He has two home games to show what he papped on about in June and has not produced. We haven't won a single game of any type in 90 minutes under his charge. Two more screw ups and sackings have to happen.
Yes, there were individual player mistakes, the ref was shockingly bad, but every game including friendlies under this manager, we haven't won one game in 90 minutes nor do we look likely to. A few hopeful glimpses today but precious little else. Still comparable to Steve Eyre. Disorganised, feeble and managerially inept. How long must we wait to see something worth watching?
