Watch me rise up and leave, all the ashes you made out of me – Report
at 19:51 28 Apr 2024

Think I've got some dust in my eye......

You're so right about the generacional thing..... I was at the game in 68 with my late father when they scored so early that the floodlights hadn't been turned up to full power..... We played them off the park that night but like so many games that season we lost.....

We were there in 76 on that wonderful afternoon with the great Brian Moore describing the action on the Big Match and then I went to Molineax 10 days later.....

Now living so far away from HQ I only get to see the games online, but last Friday was one for the ages, I had actually said to a couple of younger work colleages, Spurs and Liverpool fans, that I thought we'd do a number on them, but I think they thought I was just daft...... never in my wildest dream did that scoreline enter my thought, maybe sqeek a 1-0 or 2-1.....
It was just magical, but was still nervous at 3-0..... now that's daft.....

at 22:42 26 Sep 2023

Father originally from Latimer Road, Mother from Hackney.....both now deceased.

They moved to Shepherds Bush in late 50's..... I was born in Du Cane Road Hospital and lived there until mid 80's, went to Wormholt Park junior and then The Wren.....

Gradually moved further west and have lived in South East Ireland for last 24 years..

Still think of London as the greatest City on Earth, maybe rose tinted glasses, but still enjoy visiting the place and the old girl that is HQ although visiting is now less frequent.....

Help choosing a football weekend abroad

As an alternative to the bigger Spanish clubs how about going to Vitoria Gestiez an hour or so south of Bilbao and home of Alaves who were promoted last season beating Levante in the play off final. Vitoria is a lovely city and was the start point of stage 2 of this years TdF. Plus it's only an hour's drive from some lovely areas of Rioja wine region.......

Another shout out for Spiral.......

Also the Scandi Noir series The Bridge, especially seasons 1 and 2, felt it lost its way a bit after that.....

Plus the original series from Scandi World, Borgen, it's been shown recently on BBC Alba, still great even after 10 years or so.........

Most box sets on All 4 under the Walter Presents heading are reliably good......

If you can find it there was a Belgium series called The Outlaws, a black comedy that is worth a go, something like 10 episodes.......

That miss….
at 13:32 31 Aug 2022

Amazing isn't it that despite a cracking display last night and a comfortable 3-1 win the thing that's being spoken about most of all is Dykes miss........ Yes it was a shocker, but it happens.......

Seem to recall a few seasons ago when we destroyed Cardiff 6-1, instead of talking about the wonderful football we played the hotest topic was Lumley's balls up with the last kick of the game to allow them to score..... seems negativity is highlighted and all the good things fade into oblivion....... as fans we do seem to like a scapegoat and to kick someone when they are down....... Apart from that miss I thought Dykes had a good game and his workrate allowed Willock & Chair to play further forward......

Lets enjoy the way we played last night especially 1st half

It's actually to do with climate change...... each stripe represents a year since Reading were formed indicating if the average temperature was hotter (red stripes) or cooler (blue stripes) than average....... It's a worthy thing to highlight and shouldn't be dismissed out of hand, although it would look better on a plain shirt rather than one with narrow horizontal stripes.....

Nice to see Tramore getting a few mentions........

The copper coast route between Tramore and Dungarvan is lovely, some stunning scenery especially on days like today when there isn't a cloud in the sky.........

The route from Tramore to Dunmore East isn't bad, then follow the River Suir to Passage East, pick up the most expensive ferry to cross the river €9 single for a 600 meter crossing then head from Ballyhack out to the Hook lighthouse and then back along the coast via Kilmore Quay to Rosslare...... After that you can head up the Wexford and Wicklow coast to Dublin.......

There used to be a 9 hole course on Horsenden Hill and another 9 hole course just off the Western Avenue behind Greenford Halt station....... Don't know if they still exist.

When I started playing it was a via the 72 bus from the Bush to Roehampton and then a 20 minute walk to Richmond Park, either 18 or 36 holes then walk back to the bus stop and the 72 bus back....... There was usually only 1 bus an hour that went as far as Roehampton so it made for a long and knackering day.....mind that was when we were teenagers, couldn't do that now........

Channeling the BFG - Forest Game Thread
at 21:59 16 Mar 2022

I know that we needed a calming influence in the midfield with half an hour left but would have left Amos on and bought either Johansen or Hendrick on, but not both.......

We were well in the game for 80 minutes, they just upped their game last 10 minutes, Spence best player on the pitch and Wallace unfortunately couldn't contain him......

Worrying thing is the amount of muscle injuries, pitch played a huge part in that, plus Willock getting kicked out the game by Worrall, who wasn't even spoken to at the time...... I'm all for light touch officiating and maybe ref took into account the conditions but a lot of leeway was given and players just started flying into each other..... he needed to stamp down on some of the tackles earlier......

But 3 points for away games at Luton and Forest, could be worse....... Just hope we've enough fit players for Sunday.......

Hey Simon, how's tricks? Haven't been over for a game for years and doesn't look like I'll get over any time soon, except for maybe the Play Off Final :-) If not will try for next season and get a ticket along side you, Graham and Beth in the back row, at least no knee cap problems....

Re you comment about Stokes figures that doesn't make a lot of sense is about the covid write off of book value with the collapse of the transfer market....... That to me looks like another loop hole and is not that dis-similar to Derby re-writing the amortisisation of the player values on imaginary transfer values, except Stoke have gone downwards whereas Derby if memory serves me correct went upwards........ That's really no more than an exceptional item of expensditure that is not quantifiable with any known facts, somebody has just effectively made it up.......

Am I reading and understanding that correctly? Mind as it's nearing 9pm I'm probably reading it all wrong.

Keep well mate.....

Feck me that was a ballsy display 2nd half........ but it was really unnecessarily so, we were so comfortable 1st half that they didn't have a single attempt on goal....... I really don't know what goes through supposed professional athletes brains at times, everyone knows you do that sort of head movement you're going to be in trouble.......

I actually couldn't really see them scoring as for all their 2nd half possession Seny on had to make 1 decent save from memory..... Good use of subs by Warbles in bringing on fresh legs in Thomas and Amos, and keeping Thomas higher up the pitch to stop them over committing players forward and stretching their defence as shown with the goal......

The spirit in the club is obvious for all to see....... mention for Moses who was terrific tonight, best 90 minutes for the club.......

9 more wins from 13 games gives us 83 points, lets see where it takes us.....
