I like it but it’s cutting off their noses to spite their faces. The cup is a potential source of huge income for these clubs which are generally different shades of skint. A fan boycott would be good but doubt the powers that be will give a crap.
The big clubs have so few replays anyway and rarely in the 3rd/4th rounds. Lots of bad PR for no real gain. The clubs it benefits to some extent are probably the big L1/2 clubs who avoid a tricky replay in Winter with a Conference club. For everyone else I see it as either bad or fairly irrelevant. It’s the total avoidance of consulting anyone below the Prem which really irks me.
No issue with straight to pens though I wish there were a better method than pens.
For me the replay thing is just another tradition they’re taking away. It’s a lottery win for the club who gets it and 99% won’t but there’s a tiny bit of ‘magic’ left in the cup and they’re taking much of that away.
Think it’s more taking advantage of their own fans who are more likely to attend the last game which may look a bit silly if they’ve nothing to play for but guess people will go after a great season with the cup run.
Down to 1750 points now but doubt it’ll make the level I need so will be in the mad scramble for the general sale allocation which I guess just happens at any point given how it’s worded on the site.
Maybe misplaced but I’m optimistic Rotherham can do us a favour. They beat Millwall at home and were apparently not abysmal in a tight defeat at Swansea (plus Birmingham are crap).
There was a home goal this season where Smyth’s cross got deflected and he bundled it in but he rarely seems to be on the end of those. When there’s an opportunity to be in the right place from a goalkeeper’s parry or a loose ball in the six yard box your one striker shouldn’t generally be loitering 15 yards away.
Huddersfield are indeed the absolute masters. Saw a stat that they’ve not had a home penalty for a billion years. Might help if they got the ball in the box sometimes.
Not sure Dykes turning up for work is worth of praise. Praise relative to some down the years and Tricky Taylor I guess. I’d play after pneumonia too but I’m not sure anyone would defend my abilities a year later and I wouldn’t be too far behind his goal tally.
I just think his footwork was poor for a shot from some way out nowhere near the corner. It’s fine others (most probably) disagree. For the second I’m less critical as there’s no good option. He gets slaughtered if he stays on his line there.
This weekend’s games are terrifying. Our best hope is Preston aren’t too bothered as Birmingham should* beat Rotherham and Hudds really need to be beating Swansea at home. SW taking the usual 737483847 fans to Blackburn too who are nearly safe.
If you offered me the 50 points now I’m taking it and hoping for the best but that gap is more likely to close than widen this weekend.
