Enough about Barton Borrowdale sprang to mind when I read the OG title . Also , and I know this will be unpopular as when I suggested before literally no one agreed with me and that’s ok. But in 1991 there was players inside the club (mainly youngsters in fairness ) who couldn’t believe Simon Barker was still being picked . 7 or 8 years later he was still there and he wasn’t getting any better |

Yeah agree with most of that . He’s a thug who happened to be a half decent footballer, who at every chance he gets tells the world what shit club this is . He might be right . But it’s our club and I don’t see the club rushing to make him a forever R, do you? Absolute lemon |

I fully agree but get the feeling Clive already spends too much time explaining our football club to keep any grain of sanity that he has left 🤣 |

I agree in principal , but when it’s your livelihood, your soul income, why shouldn’t you self promote? There are many many many different types of music and genres that don’t get mainstream coverage. Not everyone wants to be anti establishment or punk rock. A lot of bands and musicians are total perfectionists and want to put on the best show they can . Sid Vicious was anti establishment and was absolute crap as a musician. Could barely hold the instrument but they sacked Glen Matlock, the real musician in the band and replaced him with someone who looked the part . That is just a 70’s version of self promotion on social media. Hardly anti establishment really when you think about it . I do agree that social media is a bit naf in truth. Not just tonight but over the season he has the best XG goals prevented in the top 4 divisions by 10 points . Great with his feet and huge too. On the flip side the guy Dean up front for MK Dons is about the biggest bellend I’ve seen for a while. VAR could have sent him off 3 or 4 times |

Not sure how bad MK Dons are but Crawley look very good indeed. Their keeper could be worth a look at too |

This is very sad news . Frank was a total gentleman and as well as being a great footballer, a great servant to the club, a Rangers man through and through and the glue that connected Gerry Francis to the players in that fantastic 90’s side . A REAL club legend . RIP Frank |

Really interesting points especially about social media . I played bass for 26 years in heavy metal band Orange Goblin and a few years back we were advised by management to be totally open to social media (get as many followers as you can , engage with people , offer competitions etc etc). It worked for a bit but all it really did in the long term was encourage the social media hoards to think that they had a say in the bands plans . For example , any band now announcing a tour will get 40% excitement and positive feedback and then 60% negative feedback like “why are you not playing here /there”. And you are right , the mystique of bands is lost as they are encouraged to be ‘open’. I’m a little more protective on bands carrying on for years and years . Bands that started post 90’s won’t make any money from record sales at all so the need for a lot of bands to keep going isn’t out of choice , it’s out of necessity to pay bills etc. the older bands like Iron Maiden, AC/DC etc keep going because it’s an absolute fortune and ridiculous to not. I read the other day that the Stones make $11m per gig!!! Why would you not ? Lastly I played bass and toured around the world for nearly 30 years (missing so many big QPR moments …Hillsbrough 20 years ago I was in a Houston hotel room awaiting a long distance call from my dad with the result ) but never once and still don’t consider myself a musician . One of the reasons why I quit a couple of years back is that the band was doing things that made me feel like a fraud, like playing main stage at Download . I felt I should not have been there as musicians learn their craft and perfect it . I did no such thing and that respect for those who do became to much . Musicians come in all sorts of guises and I have so much respect for them whether they are playing to 100,000 or 1 man in a pub. [Post edited 11 May 14:16]

Great podcast Clive and arguably the highlight of the season was reading the post match write ups…as harrowing and painful they might have been. Great job mate. Hope it’s slightly easier next season |

Yes spot on . What a frustrating player. I’d imagine one of those who looks great rolling the ball round in training and he’d always come show deep for the ball, but when faced with journeyman Championship midfielders who would battle and scrap and get about the pitch with pace and strength, he disappeared into the periphery of almost all games he played for us. Like having 10 men. No hatred towards him or anything like that and I wish him all the best. But I’d be astounded if his lack of physicality and desire didn’t see him reside back in league 1 for the majority of his career . |

Was told a week ago that Gubbins had already been released but don’t know how true that is as nothing was announced |

Come on let’s stop getting confused between the academy and the development squad or making excuses … Eze Chair Armstrong Didn’t come through our academy . They came as young adults into a development setup . I’m talking about players coming from school or earlier . That’s an academy graduate . Kakay making 100 appearances is something I won’t deny is a great achievement coming from someone who was at QPR from 13 but released at 18 because I wasn’t anywhere near good enough. It is something the academy should be proud of but let’s add up the profits made by sales of academy graduates on to bigger and better things in the last 10 years ? Furlong . That’s a success story. But who else ? With our MO over the last 10 years, it should be how we survive . Credit Les and others for signing Eze and Chair. But that’s a different thing completely . I agree with what others have said and that the club seems to have a vision of sorts and with the new training complex hopefully we should see fruits of this in the near future . But come on, to insinuate that it’s been successful is just ignoring basic facts. Anyway only how I see it I did say I’d be in the minority [Post edited 9 May 18:27]

In the minority but never thought he was as bad as most think . Gutsy tidy player who like many of our ‘youngsters’ are developing too late . Many say he was out of his depth and I actually never saw that . Even against Thomas, he was given a tough game but blocked cross after cross and frustrated him as much as Thomas got the better of him . I know most will disagree but as an ex defender he did ok. Not going to disagree with him being released and think it’s right for both parties as he falls a little short of what we need to progress both physically and ability wise, But good luck to him for the future . In a slightly negative note , there should be an inquest into everybody involved in the Academy' over the last decade as we continue to release academy products with no sell on value whatsoever. There are a lot of people still at the club who have been involved a long time and have produced very little indeed . |

Based on nothing but gut feeling and reading between the lines but it seems Olise is the main source of interest over Eze at the moment. I think the bigger bids will come in for Olise and I can’t see Palace selling both . Only my opinion of course but I’ve heard the club are waiting for this to happen to help with incomings/wages etc . I suspect it might be a longer wait than we might have hoped. |

In my top 10 too. Mel Schacher’s bass tone is off the scale . Everything I wanted my tone to be yet failed miserably [Post edited 9 May 13:34]
