I was there aged 15. I'd cut out and sent the front covers of all my home programmes (about 40) and sent them to the box office to show that i was genuine supporter but didn't get a ticket (or even a reply). However at the 11th hour I bizarrely managed to get my terrace ticket from a travel agent in Leatherhead for a £5 mark-up. Got a lift up there and back from the school caretaker and his wife and had the most amazing solo adventure (non of my friend supported qpr then).
Then I got offered a face-value ticket for the replay and wasn't allowed to go because it was fckng school night. Still don't know to this day why i just didn't rebel and go anyway.

My story for 1982 really concerns the year before.
My Mum lived in Sudbury Town most ofher life before getting married but had never been to a Cup Final - her Dad went to the first ever one at Wembley and ended up sitting in one of the goals!
In 1981 they announced that tickets for the FA Cup Final replay would be on sale at Wembley on Sunday morning, so we went down there and after 4 hours in a queue we got 2, "The only way I'll see a final" she said.
Next year of course we were back as S/T holders seeing the Rs in action - think we had to queue again for replay tickets at LR - I vaguely remember there was some doubt if the 2nd match would go ahead because of the Falklands.

Was there as a very nervous 8 year old. Don't remember too much about the day of the Final and was too nervous to join my Dad and older sisters for the replay. I do remember the toxic atmosphere at Luton two weeks earlier when Glenn Roeder was sent off and knowing that he would miss the Cup Final Replay if it went to a Replay. Have always hated Luton and I think that is one of the main reasons. Awful place to get to, traffic on the M1 around there always awful, ground was a horrible little place, awful (and quite threatening in my 8 yr old eyes) fans and then our hero being sent off for not all that much. Can still repeat verbatim the BBC Commentary from the Semi-Final though and that was a great day at Highbury. Palace in the quarters is a blur apart from Clive Allen going to celebrate in front of their fans when we scored and then the Palace fans charging us in Ellerslie Road at the end of the game and being scared out of my wits.
Those were the days where the FA Cup Final was the only live match on TV, the whole week was geared up to it, you followed the players at breakfast in the team hotel, on the coach playing cards... and we were part of it. If I recall, you just had to send your stub from the semi to get a final ticket. I wasn't a season ticket holder then. For the replay you went down to the ground on Sunday morning and queued up for a couple of hours. As the "football family" didn't bother with replays the allocation was bigger. There were rumours of Spurs fans coming down to buy our tickets as there were more available, which might explain scrapping in our sections on the night.
Oddly, I don't have too many memories of the game itself. Clive going off early meant we barey threatened in the first game, and both were mostly about containing Hoddle, Arclhibald, Crooks, etc. Venables was a defensive coach and a stifling game had worked in the semi, but it was hard work watching it, very nerve-racking to be on the defensive for so long. The second half of the replay was the only time we came alive as a threat, but it seemed to flash by. I recall walking home to Dollis Hill after the replay with a red and black scarf round my head flicking vs at the Spurs fans tooting on their way to the North Circular. |  | | |

there for the first game, aged 14.
i had broken my wrist, not wan king, but playing football for my Secondry school, on the monday afternoon before the game.
my dad being the immense piss artist he was(and still is) decided i did'nt need to go to hospital so improvised a sling using a pair of his then girlfriends black fishnets and a sock.
his girlfriend made me a black and red rosette and all the pull outs from the papers leading up to the big day to cheer me up.
by the thursday my right hand was akin to larry grayson such was the camp right angle deformity.
dad conceeded i had to go the hossy where i was plastered up to my fkn armpit by a bloke who took a bit too long rubbing my young hairless teenage chest for my liking.
my grandad 'naughty norman', from my mums side and r' s fan of 50 years standing was taking me to the game , and i think the old man was a bit weary of him so he slipped me £20 a fortune in those days to keep quiet.
of course my old ,man pleads the fifth amendment when i bring this subject up every cup final day, but it dosent stop him asking for the repayment of the score.
to this day i dont know what happend to those black fishnets stockings, but i still have the rosette.

In 82 I was 18. Did the 'march' from Ladbroke Grove in what can only be described as a rather large 'firm' with loads of Chelsea mates from Notting Hill along for the 'ride'. Met at the North Pole but got closed by the met. It was only 10am. Walked up to Ladbroke Grove to the Cowshed which also got closed. So we headed along the Harrow Rd to our final destination, Wembley Stadium. Along the route literally every off licence was liberated of its wares, despite us having a Police escort. As we reached the north circular to say I was drunk would be an understatement. I blame my mate who had acquired a bottle of whiskey & barley wine. The stench of cannabis was prevalent as well. As we reached the ground the first pub we came across was packed with Spurs, inside and outside. Those outside decided to re-enact scenes from Quadrophenia. My outstanding memories of e game? Clive Allen getting injured after about 5 minutes and being substituted. A cockerel in Spurs coloured ribbons being thrown over the fence on to the running track by the dugouts. When Hoddle opened the scoring, the cockerel went sailing over our heads from the back of our terracing and landed on the running track again. The difference this time was someone had wrung it's neck being launching it into space.
But I never forget that feeling I got when Fenwick equalised up the other end. You think Furlongs effort against Oldham or Charlie's winner last week generated loud noises ? Believe me, should it happen on Saturday, the decibels will blow your ear drums. My head nearly exploded with all the excitement.iIexpect similar should it happen again. | | | |

I was at both games
Walked to the first game from Ladbroke Grove (and walked back)! Spurs fans had about 70% of the tickets in the first game and were standing below the R's fans.
However, in the replay it was 50-50 in terms of attendance. Unfortuantely, in the first game it turned very ugly in the R's end with different factions from Ladbroke Grove and Shepherds Bush kicking off! There were a number of fires in the terracing if I remember well.
In the first game Spurs really should have been out of sight but a very young R's keeper Peter Hucker, was amazing on the day. I think he got MOM. Having said that, our equaliser was straight from the training ground and Mr Venables written all over it. Stainrod long throw, Bob Hazell near post flick-on and a great finish by Fenwick. We really stunned Spurs.
In the replay, it was a different game. I actually thought we were the better side and took a very good Spurs team to the wire. Gregory hit the bar, Stainrod should have had a couple and Hazell and Fenwick were rock-solid.
The 82 team do not get enough credit. They were a very good side and were managed by the most promising manager in the game, Terry Venables who eventually went onto to manage Barcelona.
Been an R's fan for over 45yrs and have watched them in three finals FA Cup, Milk Cup and the Play-off in Cardiff which we all lost. Unfortunately, I am in the US on Sat (I cant tell you how hard it is to say that) but my two boy's reckon it is a lucky omen - no Dad at the Final means a win!
I will be thinking about every R's fan on Saturday and wish you all the best. Whilst, I can be criticla of the team I have blue and white hoops in my blood. C'mon you R's!!!! |  | | |

I lived in Sudbury Hill at the time and I remember getting my first QPR shirt (with the Guinness logo) on the morning of the match. I proudly wore it on the no.92 bus but got off at Sudbury Town and walked the rest of the way due to traffic (and to show off the shirt). I had been on a high since the semi-final at Highbury where I watched from the North Bank. I left my voice there as well due to excess singing.
The Clive Allen injury early on in the Final was the game-changer for me. When Spurs scored I recall several fans patrolled the terrace urging us to sing. (By the way, Spurs seemed to have a much bigger allocation than us but my memory may be playing tricks.) The Terry Fenwick equalised and the R's end went beserk. Such moments sustain you through the dross we sometimes have to sit through! We played better in the Replay but we did miss the suspended Roeder. I walked home after the final whistle but I couldn't tell you much more than that - I was in a world of my own. Re ticketing, God knows how I got into the Final but for the Replay I joined a humungous queue down the South Africa Rd. I was there aged 15, 5 of us travelled on the choo choo from Bracknell, it was full of spurs and engaged in quite a bit of banter with them, there was loads of trouble in our end with most of the lower tier being spurs, saw a raw chicken and several full beer cans thrown down onto the lower tier, every time bob hazel won a tackle/header against crooks a chant of there's only one kind of ni**** went up, god knows how bobby felt about that.
I remember Ricky villa walking round the dog track and getting absolute dogs abuse for daring to be Argentinian, at least he had the bottle to stay in the country unlike ossie who cleared off to France.
When Fenwick scored it went mental and ended up miles away from my mates.
Couldn't go to the replay as it was a school night and having queued for an hour to get on a tube on the Saturday we wouldn't have made the last train home from Waterloo, if we went. |  |

You can never trust QPR and i had booked a holiday to Rimini when the FA cup final was on. Went along with the mates but booked a Train back on the Thursday before the final ( trip back was due to take 24 hrs ). The falklands war was on at the time and travelling alone in Italy was not nice.Got back into London midday Friday. The game is a bit of a blur but remember about 10 of us left the Load of Hay in Northolt about 10ish and after beer supplies made our way to HQ to get tickets on the Sunday. Was a season ticket holder so tickets wasn't an issue, but I do remember the club giving out vouchers that guaranteed a cup final ticket at the Orient game that was played midweek after the semi-final. The crowd for that game was 6-8k if I recall.
The actual final was a bit of an anti-climax, with Clive Allen getting injured so early, apart from our equalizer of course. The replay was ours apart from the result. I remember reading a report the next day that started "QPR did everything to lift the cup final replay from obscurity apart from win it". It didn't help. | | | |

If I had to boil down to one moment the greatest feeling I've had as an R's fan, it would be the moment the ball struck clive Allen's knee in front of a packed north bank at highbury.
Winning that semi final and going to wembley for an FA cup final for the first time in the clubs history. The next few weeks were just a build up to the big day when the FA cup still really meant something.
The first game was drab, I'll never forget the queue for tickets for the replay, it started at the far end of south Africa road, where the TA centre is. I reckon I stood for there for three hours in the rain. They were selling the tickets from the turnstiles behind the loft. When I finally got to the front I heard them shouting out they there running out and would only be selling one per person. Ba#tards!! I needed three. Anyway, luckily the guy who served me sold me three and I was away, tried to leap over that little brick wall in batman close on my way home, slipped and cut my leg open.
The replay was the opposite of the first game, both teams had chances though I thought we edged it. Currie gave away a penalty after bob hazel missed a challenge on graham Roberts. After that we laid siege to their goal, even though we lost I came out of wembley proud of my team, they had given it everything ( something that couldn't be said 4 years later).
On my journey home I got jumped on from behind, thought some spurs fan was gonna batter me, luckily it was just another R's fan that I went to school with mucking about.
To this day I still believe if Clive Allen had played in that replay we would have won. |  |

Funnily enough my memories of the days at Wembley are less clear than the Quarter Final against Palace, where after staying the ground to celebrate the late winner I came out of the ground to see a mass of Palace Fans running around into Loftus Rd from Ellerslie Rd. I jumped into a garden and hid behind the hedge - it was quite lively.
I also remember more clearly the Semi Final at Highbury. Bobby Hazell was immense shutting out Regis and the Clive Allen goal, for me, rivals all of the great/important goals that I have witnessed in subsequent years.
I idolised Simon Stainrod at that time. He remains to this day one of my all time favourite players.
The finals, as I say, are a bit of a blur. I remember in the first game there being a lot of Spurs in the Rangers end and two blokes going hammer and tong at each other quite close to me. I dont remember it being as bad in the Replay, when as many as said Rangers were the better side.
No real recollection as to how I got a ticket. Still have it somewhere. Although I also remeber a voucher at a poorly attended midweek game (could have been Orient as someone has suggested) that would have given me access to a ticket (although assume my Season Ticket would have done as well).

Reading this thread has brought back some great memories. I remember driving up to Blackpool with my dad (cold but sunny) and the replay. Beating Grimsby at home then Palace and thinking 'it's our year'. A lot was made of it being us V West
Brom again. I always loved going to Highbury and was enjoying the game till Clive scored.
We were season ticket holders luckily so no worries getting tickets. I'd dyed my hair blue and white and my Mum dropped me off at Forty Lane. As I walked past The Torch a Spurs fan threw a pint of beer over me.
The game itself was an anti-climax, once Clive got injured our threat was gone.
Amazing atmosphere when Terry Fenwick headed the equalizer. So back again on Thursday for the replay.

I vaguely remember at the start of the Cup run there was controversy over our plastic pitch and some suggestion that we should play all ties "away" but it obviously was sorted as we played a number of games at home including an exciting quarter final win over Palace. I was at Highbury for the semi-final and the stand-out memory was a great performance by Bob Hazell.
For the Final I was in the wheelchair section at Wembley , which at the time was over the Tunnel and therefore in the middle of the Spurs fans. The first match was tense but dull but the replay was much better and we deserved to win. When the Rangers players did their lap of honour at the end they got a great response from the Spurs fans all round me and it was hard to hold back the tears. It sticks in my my memory as the most choked I've ever been at a football match. At the time it felt like we would be back soon - didn't realise we would only manage it once in the following 32 years! |  | | |

Yes there was a voucher given out at the Orient game and that meant i could get two tickets as i was also in the supporters club. That part didn't seem particularly difficult. So my brother went as well even though he didn't really support us at the time. He has done since then though and he'll be there Saturday.
The first game was so fantastic. The Cup meant everything back then and it couldn't come around quick enough. We made a huge banner which took hours and hours and it was bloody good. We showed it all the way up to the stadium from Wembley Park - it was all such a laugh. When Spurs scored and we had lost Allen that felt like it, but the equaliser seemed to come from nowhere. I think that everyone was happy with a replay, but it wasn't a great game I think.
The tickets for the replay were on sale at Wembley on the Sunday, not sure if they were sold at the ground as well, but Wembley was nearer for me anyway. I think that Spurs had a separate queue. Well we got them anyway. It's hard to remember much about either of the games, but the replay was better. We went 1-0 down and then we put the heavy roller on Spurs. We were all over them. Gregory hitting the bar was the moment I'll always remember. That would have been a great goal. It wasn't to be. I think that the Spurs fans gave us an ovation at the end - dunno why i remember that really. Rangers did us proud though, it just wasn't to be on the day. It was easy to get a ticket for the first game. From memory, I just had to post my counterfoil from the Highbury match & back came the ticket. If you wanted extras, it was a diferent matter though.
How did we end up with a draw? If we had lost by ten we couldn't have complained. Peter Hucker & Gary Waddock were superb but the rest gave us a glimpse of how '86 would look! Indeed, Tottenham only scored due to that imbecile of a refferee, Clive White from Harrow, obstructing Waddock. The only time in the match that he escaped our Gary. Drinking before the match, the pubs were mixed with no problems at all. You didn't even get pissed on when visiting the loo!
As of now, I was living in Ipswich & my wife was expecting our first son (he will be with me on staurday) & I could not afford the time or money to go back to the Bush on the sunday to get a ticket for the replay.
Sunday night, our phone rings. The husband of my cousin has only got a ticket for me!
We outclassed them. We were brilliant. The chipped lob from John Gregory that hit the bar was sublime. The equaliser from Gary Micklewhite being disallowed to give offside against Simon Stainrod for lying injured on the touchline was a heartbreaker.
That night ranks among the very best of our performances that I have seen. Defeat really hurt, but the pride in how we had played was enormous! | | | |

Cannot believe that I was only 16 in 1982, 32 years later and the fortunes of time doing its best to make me look old the memory of the day remains young, right back to the first game, a cold Saturday afternoon in January on the old omniturf against Middlesboro'. 1-0 down going into the last few minutes of the game and we equalise down the Loft end from a corner. In those days we stood and as we all went up to celebrate a stray elbow struck me in the eye giving me a glorious shiner! And through those late winter and early spring months we progressed, won the replay against 'Boro, extra time if I remember, beat Blackpool after drawing at Bloomfield Road, (Allen hat trick in the replay), beat Grimsby 1-0 at HQ and then the game against Palace in the quarter final at Loftus Road, a real tight and tense affair and with five minutes left, in a heaving LR, probabaly close on 28,000 in the ground, we win a corner. It was hit to the far post where Stevie Wicks, if I remember nods it back and Allen turns on a sixpence a couple of yards out and slams it into the net. When the full time whistle went the crowds stormed onto the pitch to be confronted by Palace supporters cue police horses by the dozen to intervene.
The semi-final at Highbury and on that day I wore a grey QPR 'Lonsdale' shirt and stood on the Northbank just to the right of the goal and towards the back. the ground wasn't sold out, 45,000 out of a capacity of 60,000, but certainly there was more Rangers than West Brom. And then the goal from Clive Allen's right knee from a clearance from Ali Robertson. The Northbank erupted and then 17 minutes of torture with the Highbury clock vivid in everyone's eye site, no scoreboard, no 4th officials board, just that bloody clock, ticking as slowly as it could dare. And then the final whistle went and we were in our way to Wembley. Alderniti ridden by Bob Champion won the Grand National that day.
My Dad organised the tickets for us for the final, he owned a newsagents in Thorpebank Road and was a QPR bingo agent, so getting tickets from the club was not a problem. Myself, my brother and a couple of friends chose to stand and had tickets for the upper tier opposite the tunnel end. Dad had the shop decked out in blue and white, sadly it seemed the rest of the Bush couldn't be bothered. I wore a QPR hat to the game along with the red away shirt and obligatory silk scarf tied to the wrist along with straight jeans and black Docs. We were dropped off by our friends Dad round the back of the stadium and endured torrents of abuse from Spuds fans. Inside the ground the upper tier where we were was all Rangers, the lower tier for some reason seemed mostly Spurs. This brought the opportunity for QPR supporters with banners, held up with wooden supports to remove the wood and use them as spears to aim at the Spurs supporters below. Some of the scenes looked quite nasty.
The game itself, everybody else has covered, quite a dull game, and even the weather was miserable. Rangers held their own, with Peter Hucker commanding his goal, and without doubt the loss of Clive Allen was a big hindrance especially with only one sub available. With extra time, we were right behind the shot from Hoddle that took a deflection to go past Hucker for their goal, and that we thought was that. Rangers pressed in the second half of extra time and from the moment that Stainrod took the long throw and Bob Hazel flicked the ball on, you just knew that Terry Fenwick was going to score, and we celebrated some. The evening we went to the Load of Hay in Northolt, in the days when you didn't have to prove your age. Plenty of beer and then up early the next morning as I worked in Dad's shop at the weekend.
My brother was also up early along with our friends, to queue with the masses down SAR to get the replay tickets. By all accounts a few Spurs had also tried their luck in the queue and got pasted for their presence. The replay was on the following Thursday evening, with a crowd of 92,000, being the evening capacity. It was much more even in terms of support and after the penalty Rangers dominated, hitting the bar, a goal disallowed (Micklewhite), it was just one of those days where luck just deserted us. I couldn't get a ticket for the first game, but got a ticket from a QPR supporting cousin for the replay. That game was far more entertaining than the first and I still look back on that tie as a game where the best team lost which is rare in a cup final. I thought we outplayed Spurs for the majority of that game and had we not conceeded that early penalty then I'm certain we would have been in the Cup Winners Cup [ remember that ] the following season. Alas it was not to be, but I felt at the end of it great pride in the teams efforts that night. I thought Gary Micklewhite played the game of his career in that match. I recall he never stopped running and was a constant thorn in the Spurs defence.
As I trudged back down the Wembley Way after the game, as sad as I was in defeat I still held my head up in the knowledge that we had played well and given Spurs a run for their money. I also recall many Spurs fans not being that jubilant in victory. Many on the tube carriage I shared seemed quiet, but a small group tried to conjure up some light hearted banter with the few R's fans there.I saw no trouble and at Victoria station I got chatting to an old Spurs fan returning from the game and he admitted QPR should have won.

I used to travel up to nearly every home game and a lot of away games from my home in Eastbourne at the time.Advantage of being single then.I have got the ticket stub still for the first match £5 terrace.Unfortunatly I remember a lot of violence at the match as Tottenham were also allocated a certain amount of tickets in the same end.I believe there were hundreds of arrests at the game.Even remember before getting in the ground there was fighting outside the ground including a lorry carrying Rangers supporters being stoned.Not what you want to hear on a memories page but I remember these things well.Also remember getting up early next day to travel up to QPR from Eastbourne and queue for a ticket for the replay.The queue had reached opposite White City stadium when I joined it but I got my £4 terrace ticket and headed back on the train to Eastbourne.I now live in Hastings and will be travelling up but I have seen QPR 3 times at Wembley and have yet to see them win | | | |

Cannot believe that I was only 16 in 1982, 32 years later and the fortunes of time doing its best to make me look old the memory of the day remains young, right back to the first game, a cold Saturday afternoon in January on the old omniturf against Middlesboro'. 1-0 down going into the last few minutes of the game and we equalise down the Loft end from a corner. In those days we stood and as we all went up to celebrate a stray elbow struck me in the eye giving me a glorious shiner! And through those late winter and early spring months we progressed, won the replay against 'Boro, extra time if I remember, beat Blackpool after drawing at Bloomfield Road, (Allen hat trick in the replay), beat Grimsby 1-0 at HQ and then the game against Palace in the quarter final at Loftus Road, a real tight and tense affair and with five minutes left, in a heaving LR, probabaly close on 28,000 in the ground, we win a corner. It was hit to the far post where Stevie Wicks, if I remember nods it back and Allen turns on a sixpence a couple of yards out and slams it into the net. When the full time whistle went the crowds stormed onto the pitch to be confronted by Palace supporters cue police horses by the dozen to intervene.
The semi-final at Highbury and on that day I wore a grey QPR 'Lonsdale' shirt and stood on the Northbank just to the right of the goal and towards the back. the ground wasn't sold out, 45,000 out of a capacity of 60,000, but certainly there was more Rangers than West Brom. And then the goal from Clive Allen's right knee from a clearance from Ali Robertson. The Northbank erupted and then 17 minutes of torture with the Highbury clock vivid in everyone's eye site, no scoreboard, no 4th officials board, just that bloody clock, ticking as slowly as it could dare. And then the final whistle went and we were in our way to Wembley. Alderniti ridden by Bob Champion won the Grand National that day.
My Dad organised the tickets for us for the final, he owned a newsagents in Thorpebank Road and was a QPR bingo agent, so getting tickets from the club was not a problem. Myself, my brother and a couple of friends chose to stand and had tickets for the upper tier opposite the tunnel end. Dad had the shop decked out in blue and white, sadly it seemed the rest of the Bush couldn't be bothered. I wore a QPR hat to the game along with the red away shirt and obligatory silk scarf tied to the wrist along with straight jeans and black Docs. We were dropped off by our friends Dad round the back of the stadium and endured torrents of abuse from Spuds fans. Inside the ground the upper tier where we were was all Rangers, the lower tier for some reason seemed mostly Spurs. This brought the opportunity for QPR supporters with banners, held up with wooden supports to remove the wood and use them as spears to aim at the Spurs supporters below. Some of the scenes looked quite nasty.
The game itself, everybody else has covered, quite a dull game, and even the weather was miserable. Rangers held their own, with Peter Hucker commanding his goal, and without doubt the loss of Clive Allen was a big hindrance especially with only one sub available. With extra time, we were right behind the shot from Hoddle that took a deflection to go past Hucker for their goal, and that we thought was that. Rangers pressed in the second half of extra time and from the moment that Stainrod took the long throw and Bob Hazel flicked the ball on, you just knew that Terry Fenwick was going to score, and we celebrated some. The evening we went to the Load of Hay in Northolt, in the days when you didn't have to prove your age. Plenty of beer and then up early the next morning as I worked in Dad's shop at the weekend.
My brother was also up early along with our friends, to queue with the masses down SAR to get the replay tickets. By all accounts a few Spurs had also tried their luck in the queue and got pasted for their presence. The replay was on the following Thursday evening, with a crowd of 92,000, being the evening capacity. It was much more even in terms of support and after the penalty Rangers dominated, hitting the bar, a goal disallowed (Micklewhite), it was just one of those days where luck just deserted us. The end of the semi was agonising. I thought it was never going to end. A totally dire game but thrilling and terrifying whenever Regis got on the ball. Bobby Hazell was never better. At the end of the game no-one wanted to leave the North Bank and the rumour spread that Leicester had beaten Spurs in the other semi. We thought we had it in the bag. | | | |
