Meeting with the directors on 21:42 - Sep 19 by RAFCBLUE

I can see your perspective. I've been on the receiving end of it as an away fan.

I don't agree with it but I can see the commercialisation of a captive audience can be good for the revenue maximisation principle in the earlier words of our director(s).

It's been going on for years though. I remember in the 1990/91 season when we played Burnley there were people outside the away end with tins of paint changing the prices for that last game; a bumper crowd gives bumper captive audiences. Our trip to Wembley was an example.

But it's interesting that no one has answered my question yet

Do RAFC charge the same prices for refreshments in the Sandy Lane, Main Stand and Pearl Street?

Those Burnley games were always all-ticket. Does that mean the prices were increased, printed on the tickets and then the new prices were painted over the turnstiles?

Was milly involved in this operation?

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

I've always been of the view that if you whack your refreshment prices up, you are just moving customers away to chippies outside the ground. It's false economy as whilst you make a bigger profit on what you sell, you don't sell as many because people wont pay those prices.

Glad to hear a membership scheme is being brought in. Just hope it's ready for next season and doesn't involve any of the subterfuge we've had the misfortune to witness from the directors of "Team Rochdale" over a number of issues, still evident in the responses to the Trust.

One has to ask, why? What on earth do they think they're trying to achieve apart from alienating the fanbase? Just stop it; it's not clever, it's not businesslike, it's not necessary.

Thanks for that.

The chairman's statements on GMR say a lot about how the club feel on the season ticket situation. Amongst the request for figures, there was also fans asking for opinions on things like the admin fee, presumably that will come with the figures? If not, at least we heard what the man at the top thought tonight.

The answer around the food prices in the away stand is extremely disappointing. I trust the Trust expressed similar thoughts on behalf of their fellow football fans.

It's great to hear about the new ideas coming from the new Chief Exec.

We didn't do because it's been said before, and on the night where we had just an hour for the meeting (it eventually took hour and a half), there was bigger issues to deal with. Like said before, there's been split prices in the Dale Bar / Ratcliffe historically in a bid to increase revenue from away supporters as they generally won't take their business elsewhere, and I viewed it as an extension on that. Quite happy to be contradicted on this, but I'd argue that the prices are more than comparable with food kiosks at other football grounds (whilst accepting that they are expensive if compared with any cafe). There was nothing to suggest home supporters are charged different prices, but I couldn't tell you if the Main Stand Bar charges the same as Dale Bar (different breweries etc).

The vast majority of the meeting was spent dealing with ways to boost the crowd both in short and long term. New Chief Exec Russ Green came across very well, and he struck me as somebody who is constantly one step ahead in his thinking. There is a real focus to boost the next generation of supporter through, and it sounded like this will be achieved through idea after idea after idea rather than just one thing and assuming everything will fall into place.

Several ideas were chucked out, some of which I've discussed on here. Obviously no decisions were made at the meeting, but we really pushed the idea of using the Trust as a sounding board for any decisions that are made and how they are presented (ie make young season tickets £10 rather than making them free with a £10 admin fee). RG talked about his Hartlepool experiences with regards to season tickets. Can't say I came away with a feeling of what might definitely happen, but my gut feeling is there is an openness to do things differently next time round.

<<"Making good away followings pay more than home fans for a pie, bovril or packet of crisps whilst they are in effect a captive audience is also good">>

While there are a lot of good points in your post, I can't agree with that. It's not good that any club sees fit to charge supporters different amounts for the same product. We are all the same. We'd go mad if it happened to us.

What the hell does the price of a pie, coffee etc matter? As you are a dale fan,you should know that the snack bars are tendered out season by season.Rochdale get a lump payment.Makes no difference if the contractor charges 50p or £3 for a coffee etc,Rochdale get nothing more or nothing less.

With a chippy on the doorstep that sells rag-puddings, I would suggest price reductions would be required to try to lure business away from the chippy?

What the hell does it matter Knob head. For the thick on here, the snackbars are contracted out.Whether they go in competition with the chippy makes no difference to the club whatsoever. Some Rochdale fan you are,too thick to know that the snackbars are contracted out.

Actually, they're not contracted out. They're run by the club and always have been.

As you are so knowledgeable about business, explain to me what happens in an extreme scenario whereby the snack bars sell nothing. Is that a good result for RAFC?

So let me get this straight.
I'll lay it out so it's REALLY easy to understand (at your level).
Concession is uncompetitive.
Concession makes no money in 2016-2017
Milly thinks concession pays rent in 2017-2018????? REALLY?????

You just had a free business lesson.
Goodbye. You are an absolute fraud in every sense of the word and I wish to have no more to do with you.

Are you just a knobhead or lost a family member with an illness? Not just one company puts in a tender.Rochdale will pick the best offer available.Rochdale then contract it out (to the best offer) and get paid the rent.Whether that same company wants the contract the year after is up to them.Doubt they will though if they dont make a profit, which is unlikely.
Now,you jog off to see your seriously ill family member.Knobhead.

But if the snack-bars don't sell anything, why would anyone (different company or not) want to take up the contract?

Please don't call me a knobhead, I'm genuinely intrigued to hear your sound business advice. I too one day hope to holiday in Dubai and have a nice car and from your well-mannered and intelligent-sounding responses, I believe you seem to be the right person to take advice from. I am incredibly workshy though, I hope that won't be a problem.

Tangled up in blue.
