The off season 23:56 - May 20 with 19090 views | jokerthief | Three things i would like to happen during the summer. Get in early to find ideal crowd pleasing friendlies at home. Burnley and Man City would be my choice guaranteed full house , exciting start. Scrap the idea of taking players out of their comfort zone pre season. July is the best month in the UK, why fly to exotic over-heated locations? It has never worked, players start season hot bothered and exhausted. If they deserve it, take them in Dec/Jan/Feb,.. to warm and pleasant training facilities. And most important lets employ some 3rd level Roy Hodgson type person to keep players happy. The manager Hill is an excellent coach, but seems to treat players in a military style way. Not all players have the same personalities, some need an arm around them not sent to the glasshouse. Spend 100 grand on a player at this level, it has to work. Not a rant...just personal observations.
The off season on 00:06 - May 21 with 16401 views | kiwidale | I'm wondering if BBM is that type of person who could be a buffer between players and Hill? if so its not working I cant for the life of me work out why Cannon was ignored for so long or why Kitching suddenly appeared in the team then disappeared when results improved only to be discarded when it was his first full season. I wonder if Kitching will go on to have a successful career elsewhere like Bennett has.

I'd be surprised it's that cheap to be honest, whatever it costs it's all a business expense anyway so all deductable I'm guessing
The off season on 02:11 - May 25 with 15317 views | jokerthief | Really not the point, July is perfect in the UK. Would cost nothing more than usual. Why go to expensive over priced over heated venues? I just do not understand. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Probably allows for more focus. Away from families, fosters good teambuilding and helps build stronger bonds sooner whilst they're away. Probably get more sessions in the day and may even be a draw when trying to sign players. I think there are plenty of benefits and the only negative being the cost but a residential stay somewhere like st George's in Burton for a similar duration probably won't cost too dissimilar. I feel it's worth continuing with.
The off season on 07:55 - May 25 with 15193 views | EllDale | I think that it's great that they go into camp in Spain. The benefits are obvious. At the same time though (and I'm sure that Hilly knows this better than anyone) we need to analyse what we do pre-season rather than where we go because the last few seasons have seen us start sluggishly.

But the benefits of going to that particular camp, like those who go to the same resort every year, aren't obvious at all There needs to be a fresh approach, especially for those players who've been there several times, and there have got to be plenty of other options that are worth looking at instead

Agreed. The amount of injuries sustained in recent years in Tenerife have been staggering.

Those were excellent trips. Winning 5-2 at Stenhousemuir and 2-0 at Raith were particular highlights and showed the gulf in class between the leagues.

Or even better was the 7-2 demolition of Stenhousemuir and the 3-2 victory over Raith on Parkin's return a few years later. We had Holt back then - and Kevin Townson scored an amazing chip against Claude Anelka's Raith. Stenny are a part-time club, though, so we can't be too harsh. Still, the fact that we pay a higher average weekly wage than most Scottish Premier League clubs at present demonstrates why the standard is falling so rapidly in Scotland. Only three clubs pay more on average than we do. Here are the latest annual/weekly average wages for the SPL. Other than Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen, I say we would compete well in terms of pay. Celtic - £735,040 / £14,135 Rangers - £329,600 / £6,338 Aberdeen - £136,382 / £2,623 Hearts - £95,514 / £1,837 Hibs - £87,100 / £1,675 Dundee - £59,904 / £1,152 Partick Thistle - £58,175 / £1,119 Ross County - £56,394 / £1,085 Kilmarnock - £55,100 / £1,060 St Johnstone - £47,992 / £923 Motherwell - £42,662 / £820 Hamilton - £41,488 / £798

Once upon a time they were. Lack of TV money and previous financial mismanagement has taken its toll across all of Scottish football.
