I’d have him back doing the leg work in midfield, hugely underrated by a lot of our fans as he was the “water carrier”.

The thing is though, we're trying to add value to players, so it's not just about getting points now. Although Hamalainen and Manning are similar ages, I think Hamalainen has more potential. He's got better defensive awareness, more pace and reads the game well. Manning has had more championship game time but I think longer term Hamalainen will be the more complete player.
Dykes may well be as good as, if not better than Jordan but is cheaper and has more potential because of his age. Although I agree Jordan would walk into our current team and influence games more right now.
Freeman I'm not sure about. Would he really be much better than Chair, who has scored four goals already largely from right wing? Again he's cheaper than Freeman and has much more potential being able to play with both feet and in my view less predictable. Would be better maybe than LTC but not sure he'd play the deep lying role that he's played, and again would be more expensive. Could be an alternative to Willock on the left wing but then again if we want to give our young players enough game time, he'd be a very expensive person to bring on off the bench. |
Some great points and they may well turn out to be much better than these three.
I'm a bit a biased with Hugill . I just loved him. Sure he missed shed loads but his endeavour a goal record for us was great.
You and I would probably be better defenders than Manning but what he gave us going forward was outstanding.
Freeman was superb for us.
You're right and I hope Dykes, hammy and the rest excel.

You just have to compare stats. Luongp 3.7 tackles won per match this season, 1.9 interceptions. Ball, .5 and .3. Cameron 1.9 and 1.5. He also wins 60% of ground and air duels in comparison with Ball's 45% and Cameron's 49%. Obviously he's playing in a different team, with different challenges etc, and Ball hasn't got his experience. However, it's got to be a factor in how we retain and regain possession no longer having Mass in the team. |  | | |
