Presenter - Bill Herlihy Pundit - Johnny Giles Pundit - El Tel Pundit - Gary Neville for the knobs and buttons Wild Card - Keane
I recall Graham Souness starting out on his commentary career when he was invited to RTÉ in Ireland to join the established panel for a summer tournament. Bill Herlihy hosted and the fixtures were Johnny Giles and Éamonn Dunphy. Nobody was afraid to call the match, or individual performances, as they saw them, with no holds barred. Souness was taken aback by the honesty and candour of the observations, being trained up in the politically correct environment of the BBC and Sky studios. He turned to Dunphy and uttered "you can't say that", to which Dunphy laughed and said "of course we can, you're in Ireland now". Over the following weeks, with the leash off, Souness became a very insightful panelist.
When he returned to the UK for the start of the Premiership, he continued with his no holds barred observations until the first ad break. The director told him "you can't say that"! He went back into his shell.
Giles and Dunphy were like the old players at the bar, who knew exactly what they were talking about and weren't afraid to say it. Herlihy was the perfect host, lobbing the odd, occasional hand grenade into a discussion to liven it up. That's why we loved them.
i'd rather spend my last days in the bunker with albert speer and matin boremann ripped to the tits on pervitin eye drops while sunk to the nuts up Blondie, debating hypoxia opening up my radial and ulnar Veins as the the red army knocks on the door, than watch these two saccharine clean cut ponces regurgitate mindnumbing ancedotes.
'Mecca Archer!.. There'll be no more talk of Mecca in this establishment!'
I'd like to add Garth Crooks but cannot work out who I'd drop for him. It certainly wouldn't be Clinton Morrison!
I'd also have Mark "Chappers" Chapman on standby for Jim White on deadline days. He seems a nice bloke but his banter is not for me Clive.
Lots of candidates for the worst. Presenter: Richard Keys and pundit Peter Beagrie, commentator Andy Hinchcliffe cos he hates us so much. I also can't bear Dwight Yorke, Jimmy Floyd Hassalbaink and Joe Cole because it's all Man U and Chelscum respectively. Oh, and Harry Redknapp because of what he did to us and how dare he claim to be an expert.
