| Census 2021 19:00 - Mar 19 with 3524 views | CliveWilsonSaid | Ok I just completed mine a couple of days early but couldn't be bothered waiting until Sunday. I would have been included in one but not sure if I've had to complete it before. Is it always like that? I wasn't expecting it to be that in-depth. | |

It does actually say something like intentionally filling it in incorrectly could also incur a fine. Can’t see why anyone would choose not to or deliberately fill it in correctly.

| Census 2021 on 10:11 - Mar 20 by 2Thomas2Bowles | By law, you must complete or be accounted for in the census. if you do not fill it in, If prosecuted, you may have to pay a fine of up to £1,000 plus court costs. Think it's on the letter as well. |
during one of the worst plagues this countries has seen for a while this could of been postponed and the money spaffed on advertising used to help the nhs or bury the dead or buy more vaccines or keep the homeless in hotels

These occur every ten years, the planning for the next one starts almost immediately, wouldn’t have made any difference to funds.

Out of interest. How will all this information be stored for the next 100 years? I presume the 1921 census was printed on paper.

Yeah - me too. Not sure why people are saying it is in depth at all. Pretty high level questions really. Took about 15 mins to complete for 3 people. If that was in depth then I guess they have never had to fill in a tax return.

Office of National Statistics innit. The aggregate data is compiled and used to guide government policy, with personal details removed. I don't know how the personal details are stored - I just know that it's impossible for the public to get hold of until it's published after 100 years. Like everything in government I imagine MI5 or Special Branch could get special permission to access an individual dwelling's historical details if they went to court and got permission from a judge. But they probably wouldn't find out much more than they could have got from one of the old street directories in the local library.

I've completed plenty of tax returns thanks! I just wasn't expecting that much detail that's all. I thought it was going to be similar to signing for the electoral register. Also was interested whether it's always been this "in depth" Not looking for conspiracies just interested. Perhaps I should look it up eh....

Yes, it's more complicated than last time. The questions about health are new. And of course the ones about sexual orientation. Also, the idea that there's usually someone here but they are currently away - previous censuses were very strict that you should only list the people who were physically in the building overnight on the night of the census. But then, they were supervised by the officer who came round to deliver and then collect the form.
