Blimey, that was a tough watch. And to think I wanted to be a professional footballer when I was a kid . . .

I watched it last night.
Unbelievable that a jury would think that middle aged men would make up allegations like that 30yrs later.
And not believe them allowing that disgusting man to walk out of court.

As for Bob Higgins to have 10hours of questioning and not say a word.
Very hard to watch, but will watch the 3rd one tonight

I thought it was more horrific than the first.

As I said, I managed to end it very quickly, but it did explain the methods used I'd see for myself, the fear they installed hanging over them all the time.

The one I spoke about, to my eyes, did not get or have the adoration that Higgins did but many of them were younger 12/13.

The other one at the 2nd club I spoke about, I really liked him as did everyone else did as far as I could see which did make me question if I was right about what was going on, a lot of players did get picked up from that club, they were very good and I was really happy to join them, it really fecks your mind up

When willl this CV nightmare end

As a guess and not being in the courtroom, the defense would have been along the lines of they never made it and were inbittered.

As was said on the jury thread, how clever/ believable the barristers are in the eyes of the jury. the time passed of the offenses and no physical evidence, no adults (from that time} giving evidence against Higgins.

From the sound of it, it was only one jurer out of the 12 who wouldn't convict. And he might have been a fellow nonce. Not sure why the judge didn't allow a majority verdict.

(When I did jury service, we had one jurer who refused to believe that the police could possibly lie, and he stopped the rest of us delivering a not-guilty verdict on a defendent who was obviously being stitched up.)

I was just left gawping at the tv open mouthed when I saw that Barry Bennell had the audacity to marry the sister of one of his victims.

What an evil bastard

A couple of the perpetrators seemed to be married with children. And one of the victims said stuff about how it had made him anti-homosexual, and that was wrong. It's not a gay thing, it's an abuse thing.

(When we were kids, my parents warned me against talking to "strangers" - I'm sure we all got told the same. But what they didn't explain was that it's not the random mincing queens you've got to beware of, it's the "normal" blokes that you and your parents already know, like the teacher and the scout leader and the football coach.)

Poor kids. There just wasn't enough screening back then. Good point about the scouts. Major investigations into them here in Ireland. We'd the priests doing it. Scout leaders. Swim Ireland. As disturbing a programme it was as a father thank you all those men who came forward. Brave souls. Think a stat popped up at the end about 350+ footy clubs had links to paedophilia. Awful. Wait till they investigate swimming and gymnastics. It will be as bad. Thank God I'd my kids born in the naughties

Wasn't there also a stat on the screen that 900-odd men had called the helpline? Given that they say only one in eight victims ever admits it, can there be a single professional footballer in Britain who hasn't been a victim?

I went to a school where several of the staff have since been sent to prison, including some who taught me, but none of my friends were directly affected. By picking on a few while still being able to preserve a respectable facade, they were able to stay in office for years.

Not football related but I was considered to be a problem child and spent periods of time in Latchmere House youth detention, Dover Borstal, Rochester Borstal and Chelmsford young offenders facilities. The abuse within these place was horrific - as we were all being punished for crimes, our voices were never heard and those that suffered had to accept their abuse almost as a part of the punishment or rehabilitation.
No one raised the issues as it was considered to be a slur on your masculinity within a very toxic, macho environment. This enabled the abusers to pick and choose their prey with impunity - and they had full access to everyone's history, so their choices were calculated and deliberate.
The level of abuse of young people within the period of the 70's, 80's and probably earlier is far more widespread than just within the sports domain.

My mum had a child hood friend who like her grew up got married and because the were of the same age their children(me included) would socialise not often but once or twice a year, normally summer outings

I never liked this womans husband who was a deputy head school teacher. Bloke gave me the creeps thankfully nothing happened.

Years later he got put away for molesting his 2 sons and be inappropriate with boys at his school.

Apparently he's out now no idea where or what he calls himself.

I went to an all boys boarding school, never saw or heard of anything throughout my years there however we had to go to a doctor who administered the BCG vaccine. I do know we all had to drop our pants as he cupped our scrotums for a second and told us to cough. Must have been 12 yo. Its was to test whether our balls had dropped, still sticks in the memory so cant imagine what these poor fellows have been going through

Is there an area of society it hasn’t been or is prevalent?

Politics, Education,The Church,Showbiz, Sport, Armed Forces, Any youth organisations etc

Where’s George Gibney? Is tough to listen to but incredibly revealing and shocking as what this actually does to children

I know almost nothing about the Premier League even though I try to catch the big games every now and then at the end of the season. But I will say this, Queens Park Rangers is just a fukking sick ass team name. Just sounds so cool.

It's over 43 years now and I've forgotten some names and without proof could not name, very hard to prove.

Nothing directly involving the club/ not employed

But there were at the time that I know of, two "youth" football clubs 14-18 that players were scouted at, as were many other clubs.

I know that the managers at these clubs were nonces

One tried it with me, I was 15 at the time, with blackmail that if I said anything, he was going to my parent to say I was gay and I would not play football for any club again. a bloody fistfight followed and I left, had to walk about 10 miles home, the anguish was just terrible, so frightened at what he may say to others.

But this c unt stalked me for months making threats resulting in another fistfight and he did not come near again.

Trust me there was no one to turn to.

He did get nicked about a year later and the cops interviewed me, I denied all knowledge, I was that scared.

t's not like today where you get police support and really you just had to look after yourself
.
The other club I just knew within a week, seeing the same stuff going on like wanting to give massages and invites to their home, booze, so I left.

There simply were no safeguards back then in football or youth clubs

Really sorry to read that 2T2B. Absolutely horrific.

I've been watching the first part today. Essential viewing as someone else said, but so hard to watch. The strength of Andy Woodman to be the first to come forward is incredible, and watching those players recall it all was horrendous.

I see the Crewe chairman finally resigned today, still claiming the club has been exonerated. What an absolute scumbag. Gradi the same.

Bare bones.
