| Adomah and Ball reach into the fire to grasp unlikely point - Report on 09:22 - Aug 23 by Antti_Heinola | Your obsession with what Warbs tells the media is inceasingly bizarre. Do you think he says nothing else to the players? Do you think he says the same thing to the players? Constantly absolutely flabbergsted by the importance some fans attach to 2 minutes of chat after a 90 minute game. If you cannot see what an outstanding man manager he clearly is (it's been evident his entire time here that players adore playing for him) I despair. That's not to say he's faultless, of course not, as I'm sure he'd say himself. Totally disagree about the fatigue too - it was patently obvious for the whole game fatigue was playing a major part - as well as the wrong selection. Thomas to me is completely devoid of confidence at the moment, because Warbs is clearly seeing something else in training to what we're seeing. On Sat he received the ball about 10 times, and passed it back to Dickie 10 times. No thought, no belief, that he could rinse his man, in stark contrast to Adomah. Being out of position only exacerbated that. Thought he was playing well at the end of last season and showing signs of why we bought him. Not writing him off yet (some, of course, wrote Willock off after one sub appearance last season). |
Try to calm down and not parody my posts! I don't doubt Warburton calibrates his comments to the players differently behind closed doors, but that doesn't mean, in my opinion, he can't be a little more precise and incisive at times in his public evaluations - not least out of respect to the fans. I was one of the manger's fiercest critics at the turn of the year, but, as you'll have seen if you bothered to read me with any kind of care, I have gone out of my way to eat humble pie and revise my viewpoints since then. He and his coaching team were superbly instrumental in salvaging a point from that game, and who knows how important it might be at the end of the season! I don't think fatigue was any kind of problem for us in the 2nd half at least vs Barnsley - in fact, our energy levels seemed to elevate the longer the game went on. The adrenaline shot from Jojo being taken out by Styles, the decibels from the supporters, and professional pride after a mostly shocking first half all played more important parts. Lots of other teams will have long trips back from away games this season with the next game kicking off earlier than they might like, and, while Sky have so much to answer for, these pre-emptive excuses have got to stop before they become embedded in the club's cultural fabric. The Board should have a word if they don't. [Post edited 24 Aug 2021 0:29]

You were wrong about the manager before and you're still wrong about the manager. One of the many reasons the players value him is because he only hauls them out privately and not to the media. How would you like it if your boss hinted to the press at how crap you'd been at work that week? I'm sure you'd prefer him or her to say it to your face and not be 'precise and incisive' about how awful you'd been. It was clear that fatigue was an issue. Dickie was out on his feet at the end of the game. Charlie had to be held up by Warburton. I really don't know how Willock kept going. Stef was knackered. 'Adrenaline pushing them on from the crowd and outrage from the Johansen tackle doesn't make the original premise wrong, and I don't have any problem with Warburton saying it. It was ridiculous and it affected our competitiveness in the first half, no doubt about it. He would also have been concerned about injuries as he's been very vocal about how tiredness leads to injuries, particularly among players with pace. I really hope the Board doesn't have a word with Warburton. I'm sure they won't as I'm sure they're delighted with our start to the season and all the things he's achieved since he's been here. Not sure what you mean about parodying your posts. Never spotted that from Antti.

| Adomah and Ball reach into the fire to grasp unlikely point - Report on 18:11 - Aug 22 by Northernr | I'm not going to sit here and argue passionately that one of our players should be sent off, but he is very late, well after the ball, his studs are showing, and he catches the guy well up the shin between the ankle and knee. It's a far worse tackle than Moncur was sent off for against us last week, for example. |
I would argue that the problem wasn't so much Chair arriving late, but that their bloke got there too early. I hope that clears it up. [Post edited 24 Aug 2021 8:33]

I'd love to be present for that word. Listen Mark, we know you've done everything we've asked of you, we know the league position has improved every year you've been here, we know you've rebuilt the team twice over while at the same time reducing the wage bill and budget, we know the football is great to watch, we know we've recovered more points from losing positions than anybody else in the division so the spirit is clearly great and the players keep going for you, we know you've taken a team that struggled with strikers for years and made it one of the most free scoring in the league, we know you've just got a well deserved new contract and other Championship clubs are trying to poach our coaching staff to get a little bit of all of this for themselves... but could you start calling a few of our players out publicly please and stop going on about how far Middlesbrough is away, you're damaging the fabric of the club mate.

"Oh, and Mark - you could have given the seats a bit of a wipe over before the Millwall game, Yeah?"

No problem - let's agree to differ like gentlemen, shall we! The main take-out from Barnsley for all of us, I'm sure, is the heartwarming sense of a point well won, so now we just have to make sure we do our best to play both halves form now on. If you knew what I'd had to put up with in my work on the current journal I work for in recent months on the industrial criticism front, you might be singing a different tune, but, either way, when players let themselves down - those were Warburton's words - I don't have a problem with a bit of detail, and I don't think they should either. My wider point, which others have actually endorsed, is that it isn't helpful for any manager to keep going on and on about a bit of tough scheduling in a way that offers a pre-emptive excuse for failing. (He's even doing it at the start of his pre-Oxford Offish interview.) it's been a subcutaneous feature of the culture at QPR over the years, and I don't like it, for the good reasons I've given. It's also the sort of thing that seeps into those parts of the fanbase here who under-critically over-identify with the club, some of whom were saying we should be grateful if we scrape a point against the Tykes (which is exactly what we did, so they should be thrilled, I guess). Personally, I wanted three, and think we should have got them, but I guess that makes me greedy. [Post edited 24 Aug 2021 11:44]

You hope that they will tell the truth, but you know that they won't & it is advisable that they don't. I couldn't care less about any press interview regarding football.

Fair enough, but a lot of people watch them, they're increasingly part of the 'product' like it or not, and we fans are entitled to respond to them as we see fit on that basis. I think Warburton is a more honest manager than most, which is why I also think he could roll back a little on all the 'I mean that very respectfullys' and praising other teams to the skies whoever they are, and be a bit grittier at times. That's all. Meanwhile, he's proving himself a very good manager, and I hope he signs the new contract.
