| where do we go from here. on 10:27 - Sep 26 by WatfordR | We're not talking about losing goals and games because of system flaws. We're talking about individual errors of the shoot yourself in the foot variety. Dickie against Bournemouth, and we get at least a draw if not a win. Dieng against West Brom and IMO we certainly get the win. De Wijs doesn't slip against Bristol and we get the draw. None of that is down to the system. Cut out the individual errors and there isn't much wrong. Our biggest problem with a small squad is injuries, and that would be a far bigger concern for me right now. We are exposed at LWB, and with JoJo apparently suffering a hammy, Field out and Amos only just back, we are short there now. But it is what it is. We can't have financial prudence and players racked and stacked for every position. |
Agree and disagree. Haven't read the posts below this yet, but yes, individual slip ups have cost us points( though that's probably the same for 50% of all scores in any game, regardless of team). Small squad? Now this is where I tend to err with your point. I believe we have the deepest team for a decade, if it isn't strong enough, ok, but we have more cover for any position than an alcohol riddled mind like mine can recently recall.

I believe Dykes is 1st choice as Warburton seems to prefer to play with a lone striker and not sure many would argue that a 34 year old Austin is better than Dykes in that role. Austin is 34, has had a lot of injuries and his lifestyle is not, lets just say 'monastic'. I can't see his match fitness drastically improving significantly. Hope I'm wrong. |
Austin is 32, not 34, but looks older on the pitch. I agree with you he doesn't look fit enough, and I'm not sure he'll get a lot fitter, unfortunately, while also being liable to pick up injuries and need 'resting'. At the same time, as he showed against Everton, with the right service he has that extra touch of quality that both Dykes and Gray lack. Though I hope I'm wrong, I fear our lack of a really top quality, fit and hungry Champ striker in the vein of a Swift or a Mitrovic is one thing that may cost us this season, even though I take heart from our ability to score from different positions. Agree entirely. We are not the finished article by any stretch, and lack a bit of depth that is now being exposed by injuries. Individual errors will always happen, although ours have come at the worst possible moments and have cost us dearly. We also lack a bit of nous and experience but that is again understandable. No time to panic or berate individual players, we have to be better than that and these boys don’t deserve it. Let’s stick with them and encourage them. I like this group of players more than any other than I can remember. Whatever happens, this is our QPR, built from the ground up with players giving their all for the shirt and showing it in every single game. They deserve better than some of the shit they have been getting so get some perspective and leave it out.
