Can't stand commentators who hate diving but excuse cynical hacks like Woods' hack just now in the Cov-Bir game. He wasn't even last man, absolutely no need to do it, just launched and with no intention o playing the ball, takes him out. Sky comms saying it was a yellow, but for me, should be a red all day long. Absolutely hate those 'challenges'. It's not taking one for the team, it's cheating. Get off. If you *try* to play the ball - fair enough. When it's like that, I have no sympathy. |  |

"To be fair to the player here and players in all levels of football, I think most want a red card for tackles like this where the sole intention is to foul to SPA whilst the ball is miles away. Fans want it too imo. But the issue here is we are not there yet. This has been a yellow card for practically every referee in world football at all levels for years and years. Therefore, I can see why the player and his team are so angry.
Of course I can see the SFP angle to this, and in time these types of tackles will probably be reds. But imo this needs to be a directive from above communicated to all stakeholders at the start of the season. This almost feels like a rogue incident.

I agree with Antti's comments and Willock's kick out at Bournemouth has got nothing whatsoever to do with it.
Yes, deliberately breaking up play is normally yellow but in this case it wasn't the typical cynical hold or trip. IMHO, it was a violent challenge which deserved a red under the current laws of the game and their application. Wilson got one in the Euro's for a far less violent challenge.
Birmingham have got a nerve complaining about it. Please don't let Woods get away with it on appeal. If they try, add to the ban for a frivolous attempt to overturn it. |  | | |

If I remember correctly Albert managed to keep his feet, or get back to them, and continue the move. Therefore, I believe this challenge was not in the same league as Wood's. | | | |

It was just as cynical a hack as Woods was and it was testament to Albert that he got up and carried on as he saw an opportunity for an attack. Another player would have rolled around in agony. And their player made much more contact than Woods did. | |

If it was a careless tackle but breaking up a promising attack, then no card (another recent law change) as attack continued because he played advantage.
