RIP Steve

A nice little piece of us beating Coventry 5-1 under his management.

Never knowingly right.

But disappointing that not many have commented on his passing. Was he that unremarkable?

Poll: Now it’s slightly clearer cut who do you want as manager ?

Even the too short official QPR message neglects to mention he was assistant to Jago for most of 73/74. One of the great Rs sides. Was his first game at the club the 8-2 League Cup win over Sheff Wed? Was in charge of beleaguered team by 1978 but brave enough (possibly there weren’t any other options) to bring the teenage strikers Allen & Goddard through. Some of my favourite early QPR memories are seeing those two up front.

It's sad news that he's passed away but IMO he was without a doubt the worst manager we have ever had, even worse than Alan Mullery. At the start of his reign, he still had players of the quality of Parkes, Clement, Gillard, Hollins, Shanks, Eastoe, Stan & Gerry plus Glenn Roeder signed in the summer (who for four months he never played) and the emerging Paul Goddard.

This team he proceeded to relegate with relative ease by six points (in the days of two points for a win) with just six wins in forty two games which must have taken some doing. Yes, Phil Parkes was transferred to West Ham in the February but even still.

It was only the fact that ch*ls** and Birmingham were somehow even worse than us than us that we didn't finish bottom.

Poll: Which is the worst QPR team?

Too little, too late unfortunately. We were all but relegated that day even after that win. We followed it with three losses on the spin to finish the season.

Just one of two wins from our last twenty three games, the other was the 3-1 win in March at the SW6 cesspit against an even more hapless ch*ls**. Eleven points from our last forty six.

R.I.P Steve. That was my first season as a S/T holder in Saffer. Worst season I've ever seen unfortunately.
