I was concerned about Beale before this game, but he got tactics spot on today. We looked a very good side from the off against a multi million pound team. Keep it up on Tuesday.

What pleased me most about yesterday was how we were consistently taking the game to Watford, no doubt helped by the deflected early goal. You could see the confidence rise in the team and that continued throughout the game. I personally felt that we were not going to lose this game once that 1st goal went in. Well done Mick Beale and his team for making the trip to Vicarage Road so enjoyable and what fantastic away support as well.

I think Clive has been a little unnerved by Beale's flip-flopping in terms of what he said in July compared to what he said in August; personally I think he's a little naive being his 1st Head Coach's role in telling the fans too much about his plans and overly praising a few individual players (Willock + Chair) in what is a team game, likewise criticising the midfield + defence and always referencing the players we are missing (his signings) and the players he wants to bring in.
Like the bloke, hope he does well, but just like I saw Holloway make some bizarre changes and get away with it, feel Beale got away with one today, but he deserved his change in luck.
Although you could argue that both Dozell and Johansen had their best games for us for a long time, just a few days after the video saying our midfield looked a little week. Perhaps they responded to a public challenge.
Also why not call some players out for exceptional performances? He still lauded the rest of the team performance. To my knowledge he hasn't called anyone specific out in a negative way yet. Whilst it is a team game, individually players need to be appreciated as well, its a rare player who doesn't like to get a positive public mention.

I loved how he came straight across to the away end on the final whistle, thumping the badge. Yes, it may be construed as good PR but I really think he gets QPR and what the fans want - good football, but also to be more than a feeder club for Brentford or Palace. The guy's ambitious and that ambition will take us along with him. We had a coach like that before - Terry something or other.

Funny how we all see things differently, I thought Beale was instrumental in our win yesterday with his Adomah for Dykes sub. Few of us would’ve made this change but as Beale pointed out after the game, Rob Edwards was trying to overload on Laird and Adomah not only addressed this defensively but also found space in behind to pop up with a winner.
Also no coincidence that his criticism of our midfield options resulted in Johansen and Dozzell having their best games of the season. Maybe a kick up the backside was needed.
Beale’s not the messiah but I’m struggling to see how he got away with one yesterday.

Our two wins so far have come against teams who likely have confidence that they are better than us, sides who therefore will come at us.
We’ve not faired so well against sides whose focus is putting men behind the ball. To be fair, if we had a CF who could put the ball in the net, that wouldn’t be so prevalent.
Hull a decent test, looking forward to it.

I think this is spot on. People who are always looking for a negative generally have other stuff going on in their lives that is making them unhappy. The way things currently are in the UK, I can see why now more than ever people might be feeling like this.
It's about time the population stood up, realised they've been had by the idiots running the country, stopped reading propaganda filled newspapers and did something about it.
Beale is a very talented guy imho and we are lucky to have him. I have faith he'll do a very good job for us and results like yesterday can only help.

Let's remember what MB said pre-season with Clive...
"I’m not accepting fifteenth, sixteenth. I haven’t come to QPR to finish fifteenth, sixteenth. I’m going for the top half as a bare minimum, and kick on, and do all the things you’ve asked. I want all the cake, and I want to eat it."
For all the alarmist talk of us getting dragged into a relegation battle, we've still got the bulk of a squad that was pushing for Top 2 after 2/3rds of the season last year.
We've already beaten two of the most fancied teams in the league. Willock is stepping it up a gear and must be in the conversation when it comes to best player in the division. Full backs have been refreshed and likely upgraded.
Say Balogun comes in and is the old head we need. Say we can get Richards, Roberts and JCS fully up to speed. Just say we bring in Archer and Iroegbunam.
Beale wants to be looking up the table rather than down, and a few more of us might be joining him.
Yesterday showed there's no reason to be scared of anyone in this league!
Six games in for most, and if you exclude Cov on 3 played, only 8 points separate the other 23 teams.
Of 18 points available, no one has more than 12.
Again excluding Cov, every team has recorded at least one victory.
Much fancied Boro won for the first time yesterday; WBA have also just won once so far.
Much derided Reading lost their first two as most expected - then win 4 on the bounce. Relegation favourites Rotherham are unbeaten.
As for us, my guess is many of us would have predicted W2 / D2 / L2 and 8 points after these first 6 games. But arguably only defeat at Blackburn and a draw at Sunderland were 'expected' results - we'd probably have expected defeat at Watford, wins vs Blackpool and Rotherham, and a draw v Boro.
Even by Championship standards, it's been a quirky, unpredictable opening month.
Some of the criticisms of Beale seem not very well informed, and the latest rage about (checks notes) signing an experienced CB for £0 and low wages (presumably) and bringing in a few other players (a further 4 at the outside) are just a reflection of the general mood of mild, gusting severe, hysteria in some quarters (rails seat were delayed by ONE GAME = 'torch the stadium and the owners with it').
Beale hasn't been inconsistent to my mind: he said he would play with both a 3 and a 2 at the back; he's obviously been looking at players with the Board for months, and - guess what - with the constraints on our spending, we can't just go in and choose what we want. Plans will change as players become available or they are priced out of our range. It will be a miracle if we sign Archer, because there must be other clubs who can pay a bigger fee / contribution to wages, etc. We will develop our own products, and we will also sign Baloguns and the like from time to time too - those things are not inconsistent.
It's a fine balance. Undoubtedly, he knew all about Shodipo, Hamalainen, Masterson et al before he arrived (most coaches and clubs have access to a ton of info), so the narrative that he has been somehow hoodwinked is laughable.
Not a dig at Clive by the way - I always enjoy his content, passion, humour and insight. He's got a sensible lens on most things and is entitled to blow his top from time to time. I would take issue with a few minor points, but in the overall scheme of things, we are lucky to have a regular source of intelligent critique to put things into perspective.

Sums up my feelings exactly.
I have no problems with us signing more players if they improve the squad. The injuries our squad has already had so far this season shows up how fragile it is. Plus it may let one or two who need more game time go out on loan.

Couldn't disagree with you more in all particulars, right down to your needlessly sarky/resentful 'Glorious Leader' swipe at Beale, who couldn't be more intelligently down to earth if he tried. While yesterday's result was really creditable, encouraging and happily surprising, getting it certainly had its fortuitous and worrisome elements, including the outrageous deflection for Chair's opener, Laird's and Dickie's lamentable failings for both of their replies, and the fortunate, if I guess technically correct in view of the current technical revisioning of the offside law, disqualification of what would have been their probably undeserved equaliser. Beale acknowledged as much in his post-match comments, and, while he was right to praise the work of Chair and Willock in our apporach play, as well as our overall shape, won't be getting carried away, as he knows we're very much a work in progress. (It did surprise me how comfortable we were for much of the 2nd half, however, as Watford really faded.)
As to Clive's writing, much as I enjoy his eloquently opiononated/partisan style as much as the next wo/man, he doesn't 'channel' me or anyone. This is a friendly and sometimes fractious online football forum, not a spiritualist church! Try to realise you're an individual too - nothing more and nothing less. His Socratic 'what do I know' schtick is clever, if perhaps a bit formulaic - it allows him to say what he likes while winning brownie points for (rhetorical) humility. (It also reminds me of this snippet from Curb Your Enthusiasm about the popular use of the phrase 'having said that'.)
I'd say Beale has twigged that Dunne and DIckie in a defensive three, four or any number you like is going to mean squeaky bum time for him and us more frequently than we'd like over the course of the season, and he's sensibly brought in an experienced and high-achieving centre back to help steady the ship, much as we did with Frank McLintock in the mid-70s team. I liked the player's interview, and this squad also need pressure on places, experienced cover and and quality performers, including in centre midfield and, as any of us with a pair of working eyes can see, centre forward. Now he needs to go to Villa and bring in Cameron Archer to fire in a few more arrows, and add some quality and steel in the centre of the park if he can.
Beale and Warburton are chalk and cheese, and it's obvious to me we've had a significant management upgrade. Yesterday's performance reminded me in some ways of our win at Middlesborough last season - flair going forwards, good in parts, and vulnerabilities at the back. Meanwhile, our job is to support the team and the project, and yesterday's events certainly makes that job easier. If we can muller Hull on Tuesday, things really will be looking up.

Damned with faint praise. Again.

I'm not sure how we could be worried about Beale after five matches as a new manager, with an unlucky injury record and a whole host of missed chances, which means at least we were making them.
In a league where Reading are top and Middlesbrough 18th, where Blackburn won their first three matches and lost their next three, QPR losing and drawing a couple of matches against lower viewed sides is barely worth raising an eyebrow.
However, the Twitterati were seemingly getting their knickers in a twist, so it was an important win to shut up the quivering hordes.
But I hope we give him a bit more of a chance than that.
Long post warning.
Completely get where you come from Nix and normally I'd agree 100%, but in this case I'm with you about 80%.
Just to be clear, I think: - He should get at least a whole season - Expectations should be lowered after last year - We may not see "his" team wants until next year. - Even before yesterday there was absolutely no reason to panic based on results or performances.
But.
The fragile club finances and the way things ended for MW make things really tricky for Beale. There's a rebuilding job needed and no money to do it but unlike with e.g. post-Redknapp it's not about scrapping everything and starting again because the core players of MW's great two half seasons of 2021 are still with us.
I know lots of us were torn about MW, knowing something had to change but desperately sad to see him go. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of players felt the same. We're told there was also breakdown in relations between MW + Eustace and LF, Ramsey etc, which needs to be rebuilt.
So on top of the usual turnover of players and tactical changes that come with any new manager, some players hoping to catch the eye but others fearing for their place, there's a lot of off-the-pitch stuff to handle, not least the hung-over feeling which we fans have got after last season (which Clive has so brilliantly articulated.) After several years of feeling very much united as a club, proud of it and of the team, personally I'm feeling a bit less sure everyone is reading from the same script.
I really hope he's a roaring success, he seems to have the potential to do it, and I'm not saying a word of criticism. But while I'm not worried about Beale, I'm a bit worried (or nervous at least) for him, and for the club. I hope to God this works out but I'm expecting a roller-coaster.

That's absolutely fair enough and I wouldn't argue you with you about any of this.
I suppose what this thread is doing is hopefully finding a balance. My post was a bit of a reaction to what I felt was a premature writing off of a new manager and our season in some quarters. However, you're right that we sometimes have to consider the constraints we're operating under and the additional pressures that places on the manager.
However, overly focusing on this creates a negative atmosphere that I don't want to spread throughout the fanbase and ultimately the manager and the team. So yes, we have to be realistic about the structural problems at the club. But we can also enjoy some fantastic football at times from Willock and Chair and others. And maybe give the guy at least half the season before we assume it's not going to work out.

It is good the general position being put forward to the thread I posted. I generally had a big fear yesterday that prior to the excellent Watford result we would be torn to pieces by them and Beale would be struggling to make headway. But I am genuinely optimistic that both Beale and the team are turning a corner. The key is to go on the front foot, get ahead and confidence builds. Another big test on Tuesday to see if momentum can be maintained.
