Can we please have a black male Mary Poppins, just to be fair to men and men of colour. What a load of f@cking bollox. James is a f@cking man's name. It's a film about a man!!! What the f@ck is happening to this crazy world.
Or maybe they feel that they have gone as far as they can with that particular character and want to freshen the franchise up a bit? For me it’s never been the same since Sean Connery left the role anyway 😉
Yes ofcourse it's to f@cking freshen it up - Naive as f@ck. As long as they freshen it up with someone black, female, gay, trans, no not ticking a f@cking box at all. They have freshened up sky sports too with a load of women just a freshen up.
Novels are an art form. Cinema is an art form. There is a lot of money to be made from art as you know. The James Bond character was written in the 50’s and the world has moved on a great deal since then. The character has changed over the years in line with the times. There is no reason why a female 00 agent couldn’t run in a successful franchise. The point is though that James Bond himself is a definite, specific character so if you want to mess around with another type of agent be it female, trans, black, Muslim, whatever, it can’t be James Bond. That doesn’t mean to say that a different character can’t be 007, but it would make more sense in the narrative to give them another number.
Debatable that Flemming’s James Bond novels are an art form. Not too far removed from The Beano, or maybe Hotspur?

I’m just going to throw this out there. Would I be right in assuming that you don’t like women very much?
Edris Elba would make a great James Bond but I can’t see the need to change the sex of 007. That said if a film of African slaves were made with white people play the slaves question would be asked in parliament so perhaps every role has its niche

Here we go, another gimpy, overly predictable, and cliché ridden internet tactic.
Either play the sexism/homophobia or racism card if somebody is fed up with blatant box ticking for the sake of it.
You can like tradition and not be a woman hater you know. Many women would think this sort of stuff is laughable as well. But to a sofa ridden internet addicted ex public servant these sort of accusations are a joyful pastime.

Ok but they are making a new BOND movie, not really a 007 (although it does kinda mean the same thing these days). As if it’s not Bond, then it might as well be a different set of movies which are just also based around MI5. As I think that’s why soo many are a bit confused by it all, as like in other famous movies, characters are known for certain things and in remakes they may have a new actor from time to time and a slightly different style, but their main aspects (which certainly would include gender) stays the same, which is why/how it’s still the same movie franchise.
Also btw is refereeing a form of art then? (if so I take it that very few understand it then )
People like Sogs are feeding the machine & it's got nothing to do with 'moving with the times'.
I see Argos got a lot of stick on their website recently for delivery of large/heavy items. It referred to their "Two-man delivery team" for items like sofas, wardrobes, etc. That wasn't good enough for the woke brigade/feminist army, so Argos have had to update the website to "Two-person delivery team". Really? How woke can you get?
Look in all fairness I don’t think we should single out anyone, as there’s loads, and I’m sure that many people are probably reading all this and agree with him, but won’t comment as he’s clearly in the minority. As I kinda get his point about “why do soo many get soo worked up about this” as people don’t necessarily have to get soo bothered as it doesn’t really make that big of a difference to us. And even then he’s not being as bad as those that will literally complain about anything and are just those that can never be satisfied, like those that you mentioned with regards to Argos.
But at the same time I do get where you and many of the others are coming from and agree that you might edit little aspects to stories, books, movies etc when they’re remade or getting a sequel, but you certainly wouldn’t change the major aspects like their gender, job, personality etc or it might as well be a new movie! As yeah we certainly don’t wanna go to some of the extremes that many are acting like we should be heading, as people soon won’t even be about to call one another gender specific/suggestion words, or it’ll be seen as sexist, but I don’t think this movie or what SOGS said would come under that

He’s too old I’m afraid.
Any actor signing up for the role needs to be on board for at least 3 films, which from today would cover at least a ten year period by which time Idris would be pushing 60.
Frankly, I don’t think a supply of Viagra is on Q’s inventory..!

It was a tongue in cheek comment and it wasn’t aimed at you anyway, but thanks for your input.

Tom Holland is the other one that’s been talked about recently - goes too far the other way. He’s like a little boy.
