I think when he changed our tactics against Boro from playing out to booting it up to Martin worked. It totally took Boro by surprise in the 1st half. Then after wards they adapted and swamped our midfield by dropping back.
Then in the 2nd half we were unable to sustain it. Timbo is not a defense mid, he's really an attacking mid and that's why we got over run in the 2nd half. Also, we tried to play it out in the old way more just because Boro dropped deeper, that was a mistake.
Tim is not like Field and wont ever rat people out Scowen style. We need that, bad moving letting Ball go really now. JoJo can do that, but he's always injured. Dozzel cannot as he's not mobile enough and now we won't be playing it out, then he's no use to us, unless he changes his game.
We have too many injured now, but if JCS was back, I would put Dickie into mid ahead of JCS to break it up like Hall did in the past and also have another big person for corners.
If, we are gonna boot it up, Martin needs to win it, which actually he does and the midfield needs to be swamper by us to stop them attacking our defence which is fragile. |  |

If JCS was back, which is a big If, and the new Manager wants to play a version of 4-4-2 or more in vogue 4-2-3-1,
Dickie alongside Field in the 2 would get my vote, leaving Martin to be supported by Chair, SJ and of the currently available players, Tim.
Dickie in the 2 has to be a better option than Dozzell, for the reasons you say and Dickie is more likely to travel with the ball and break the midfield line and open play up. |  | | |
