Coped well I thought. Lookkwd quite lightweight though.

I gather he has a long throw as they tried to place him at throw ins on the other side a couple of times but it seemed he was getting conflicting instructions.

A massive jump from Oxford City to Championship. That sums it up for me.
Drewe was mentioned last year by Ramsey as someone who had made massive progress. Then nothing. It is ridiculous that he never played any games last season when it was clear that we were going to miss the play offs. Same with Armstrong, and even Gubbins.

Hiw can the club throw them in, when we are dog shite, and massive games, yet nothing when we had dead rubbers 9 months ago.

There is zero joined up thinking, and it appears the each department (1st team, B team, academy) has a silo mentality.

I would take Ramsey’s opinion on players with a very large pinch of salt , this is the man who thinks Kakay and Nico should be our first choice fullbacks

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

He was on loan in the National League with Weymouth at the end of last season. Presumably they thought that was better for his development than recalling him. When you see the comments about Dillon De Silva definitely not being worth picking because he was only in the national League, it does feel like the club will never be able to win everyone over

But Drewe is 22 years old. Apart from extremely rare occasions, like Vardy or Austin, if you haven't made it by 21 you're destined for non league.
I get sending 18/19yo yo the NL, but older than that they should be pushing for a 1st team place.
It all seems too comfortable.

I thought Drewe started well but faded and made some errors.
It is a big step up from wherebhe has played to slugging it out in the Championship.

If we do go down, he's the type of player we'll be relying on.

Players develop at different times and different ages. Not sure why we feel the need to knock the lad or knock the club. As I said, they can't win because whatever the outcome, someone will say it should have been something else. He's a young lad, made his first senior start and did ok in poor circumstances. It was fine.

When did he say that? Hopefully not this season at least as Paal is levels ahead of Niko. But thinks rather than thought suggests he does so I suppose its this season

i thought Drewe did OK, made a couple of mistakes but overall was a decent debut

sorry if this is too 'woke' but I don't think it's actually good on any level to bully our academy players on their EFL debuts

I was skeptical of Ferdinand's comments about throwing in youth players when they're not ready but if that's the level of discourse then he's probably right.

Drewe is 22 and probably never going to play to the level QPR require, at least not long term - ok fine, there are issues with our academy and there are ways to say that without calling for the death of the recruitment team, even in a jocular (?) manner

Just shows how far football has fallen. Back in the day players like Fenwick, Stainrod, Allen, Goddard, Neil, Dawes, McDonald were seasoned professional players by 22 and could cope with it. The modern player seems so lightweight, squads are overblown in size and the whole back up system in clubs is as well. I notice this even at a club like Northampton Town, they train at our walking football club at Moulton FC, amount of coaches, analysts etc seem a lot for a League 2 side, probably double this number at a Championship club like ours. Also the players close up look so slight compared to the old days when to me players seemed bulkier, obviously diet and training methods creates them the way they are today.

I've been a bit disappointed with the loans our youngsters have got this season. The majority have gone to National League clubs and below which is fine for some but perhaps not for others.

Also, those who are among our most promising such as Pedder, Aoraha and Bala have missed out completely.

Of course, there will be those that may say none are good enough to play at a higher level. I'm not so sure.

You'd expect a 22 year old to have played 30 games in L1 or L2 is he's going to do well in the championship.

I would say that was mainly down to having a competition like the Football Combination for reserve teams. You would go from the youth team at 18-19 (or younger if a special talent like Clive Allen say) and be playing proper men's football against mainly seasoned professionals. If you didn't hack it and couldn't make the step up then chances are you'd be released by the club.

The reserve team and the regional reserve leagues was a good yardstick for clubs to see if any promising youngster they had could make it in the pro game. To be honest I don't know why the Football League doesn't reinstate them.

Ever been back to where you lived as a young child?. Everything looks tiny compared to your memories.
