For much the same reason that Abertis sold Rhoose Airport to the WG I'd imagine. They just couldn't believe that some mug wanted it.

I’d have thought this is in part a good news story.

I think I'd prefer to see more development of brown field sites in towns and cities, so many of our urban areas need refreshing.

I can’t imagine residents in that area would be happy with social housing being built. Cosmeston is on the outskirts of Penarth & Sully very affluent areas.

The article didn’t say social housing and neither did I, the expression was “affordable housing” which is the term given to houses that are sold to public sector workers snd others on low income who are buying their own homes where a body such as the council retain a stake in the property. I dare say there will be some social housing though as it’s usually the case that every development has to have a proportion of social housing. Given the shortage of houses in the UK and Wales there is a need for houses to be built.

Not meaning to appear to be pedantic but as you pointed out half the houses will be private , so I wonder what the other half would be?

I've worked on many sites which appear to be very affluent in which many residents are, but there are social housing home's mixed in amongst them on many of these sites.

The main issue with this proposal seems to be Nimbyism, It seems to me to be one of WG's better land acquisitions.

On the face of it a good story but there still needs to be caution, look at Coed D'arcy. 10 years on and still no school, no doctors surgery or other things that were promised. many of the homeowners there are quite angry that they don't have facilities that were promised when they bought houses there.

What usually happens in the case of affordable housing is that around 80% of the house will be owned by the owner via mortgage etc and the remaining 20% is owned by the local authority. It was initially designed to enable your lower paid, public sector key workers etc get on the market. Social housing is completely different.
