Is It Chair or Cha-ear? 12:24 - Jan 14 with 2691 views

Until recently every commentator has pronounced his name Chair, exactly how it is spelt. Just recently, commentators have been pronouncing his name Cha-ear.

So, which is correct? Anyone?

Here’s a clip of Ilias pronouncing his name as something like Cha-ear. (This was from the World Cup website, if I remember correctly.)

If you call the club, the waiting message you get is Albert and Ilias saying they are in the queue too. Ilias pronounces his name there as Chair, as in furniture.

So he probably does not care.

When the team line-ups are called at the ground before the match it's always Chair. I'd assume if he wanted anything else used then he would have said something to Paul Morrissey by now.

He actually pronounces it Sha'ir, which makes sense because there is no CH sound in Arabic.
