Bernard Purdie was the drummer for loads of their records
That has been debunked many times. At best he may have overdubbed a few parts on stuff they recorded in Hamburg that were later released in the US after they hit the big time i.e. with Pete Best and pre-Ringo.

I think Purdie is a great drummer and obviously a very confident man when you see him speak.
The collective internet seems to agree though that he is in fact a massive bullshitter

Yep it’s true. I’d like to say that he didn’t know what he was talking about but of course he did. So why did he say it ? Because at the time he was being eclipsed by the Beatles and he was throwing his toys out of the pram. Pompous arse.
