Driving in France 🇫🇷 18:21 - Feb 25 with 1881 viewsGaryHaddock

Taking a trip there soon, but have heard horror stories of UK drivers getting nicked and fined over there for not having triangles, breathalysers, and brie knives (joke).

I know we have a few Gallic based Rs here, can anyone provide some advice or send a good link to guidance on what I need to carry?

There are loads of cameras on the autoroutes and they are enforced. There is a Halfords at Le Tunnel if you go that way for anything last minute you forgot!

The roads are so much better than the UK, but be aware that speed limits change for the weather, as they should, so if its raining or foggy then its a different limit.

Tolls can be expensive and the motorway services can be spread out.

I've driven top to bottom a few times, and once on electric only with no problems.
Only sh!t myself once when everything froze and lorries were skidding over. did about 10mph after that with white knuckles...

You’ll be fine mate . Drive between 12 and 5pm . The Gendarme will be having lunch then.
In all seriousness be careful when driving through small villages .
They have little narrow raised kerbs to drive through which can catch you out if your clip them.

Nah, their roads are fantastic, a million times better than ours. We drove north to south and back last summer, never hit one traffic jam or issue the whole time.
Worst bits of the trip were exclusively UK side. Our roads are broken.
A good way to avoid being stopped for driving like a tool and fined for not having the required items is to not drive like a tool and have the required items. :)

There is a useful govt website which tells you the days to avoid on the autoroutes - and you really want to avoid them!
